We last read Chapter 11, in which Keena begins to have difficulties helping her friends search for the portal terminal instructions due to experiencing traumatic flashbacks of the Grand Terminus flood and the ensuing backlash against her. Luckily, Coldsnap comes to comfort her, re-state her loyalty and love for her, and motivates her once again to keep going and clear her name, after which point Firebird comes to them with a notice that she has found something. Elsewhere, Wallace Weiss, advisor to the President, attends an emergency meeting with the collective EU world leaders and prime ministers regarding the Louvre Museum bombing, where he effortlessly dodges all their accusations and expresses the U.S.'s disinterest with aiding an investigation in the absence of proof. Finally, Commander Windsor Galeforce recruits Typhoon and her friends to pull off a pair of brutal attacks on Earth, both of which will, if not stopped, surely lead to yet another global-scale war......

-Emberson's Workshop, Firelands, Elemental Realms-

Firebird threw open the door to the workshop and allowed Keena and Coldsnap to enter first, with her going last and closing the door behind her, with the folder of interest still in her hand.

"Now, as nasty as Emberson was, he was good at something; keeping this portal terminal a secret," Firebird briefed as all three girls walked back to the shop's main work area. "Seems like this was something he didn't want anyone else knowing about."

The Fire Sect Leader set the folder on the counter separating the workspace from the "waiting room", then opened it to reveal a short-but-specific list of instructions. It was mostly information on how to maintain the quality of his creations should he ever have to leave for extended periods of time, but one line stuck out to the girls.

"PORTAL INFO LOG IN SAFE - PASSCODE 41262816"

"He just left the code in a cabinet where anyone could get to it? Dumbass....." Coldsnap condemned before looking around for a safe. Soon, she found one near one of the forges, and dialed the code into it; the door swiftly unlocked and swung open by itself, revealing a black audio recorder with a blue screen lying inside with numerous buttons and dials on the front and sides. The Ice Sect Leader took it out with her right hand and examined it, lowering the intensity of her powers so she wouldn't accidentally freeze it. "You guys think there's something on this that we can use?"

Keena exhaled. "Only one way to find out."

Coldsnap navigated to the list of recordings that were already on the gadget, hovered over the first one, then pressed the "Play" button, with her, Keena, and Firebird all listening intently.

-Entry #1-

"Audio log, this is Forgemaster Emberson. At the time of recording this, it's only been a few days since that schemer Morton Flamestar was slain, with his lovely protégé, Firebird, taking the throne. Right now, her and I aren't that close. Heck, she won't even give me the time of day. But in time, she'll see. My unbridled passion will scorch her soul! .....No pun intended. Anyways, she's recently made arrangements for me to finally start a workshop in the Firelands; even though the Grand Terminus is more populous, not would my shop end up being smaller there, but it would also get a bit annoying having to hear everyone chatting noisily 24/7. Besides, I'll be able to get fuel for the forges easier once I've relocated. That.....and I'll be near Firebird more."

"Another benefit? Now that my workshop is larger, I can store this big portal terminal prototype that just arrived randomly outside my store one day. The fire mages that brought it said that they didn't know what it was doing with the others, that there was only supposed to be five portals instead of six, and that they were leaving it with me because they thought I'd know what to do with it. Do I look like I know what to do with it?"
