We last read Chapter 16, in which Coldsnap and Galeforce attempt to pursue a compromise between the exiled Storm Sect and the rest of the Mage Aspects.....a compromise that initially seems more likely after Coldsnap, Firebird, and Keena previously revealed that Alpin, Flamestar, and Hydraxus had all died, with them taking their respective places afterwards. However, upon being told that Galeforce's new plan is to kill The Ascendant, Coldsnap vehemently declines.....at which point Firebird, Keena, and Geode put their plan into action, brutally flooding the capital city of Skycrest in retaliation for the Storm Sect flooding the Grand Terminus. Not only does Coldsnap abandon Galeforce as a result, but she also leaves him to be swallowed by the waves. This time, we join her as she and her friends attempt to escape from Skycrest, and learn of Galeforce and the Storm Sect's ultimate fate.....

Firebird, Keena, and Geode were still riding the vicious, torrential floodwaters, with Firebird and Geode frantically scanning the scene for Coldsnap while Keena continued sowing untold destruction on the capital of Skycrest with her water powers.
"Where's Coldsnap?! Does anyone see her?!" Keena called, unsure if she would be able to be heard over the sound of the frequently-crashing waves.
Geode then shifted his eyes to the sky, and saw a familiar-looking ice dragon closing in on their rock slab from behind. "There! It's her!" he called, pointing upwards.
The ice dragon increased its flight speed, closing the distance between itself and the rock, all the while firing frigid blasts from its mouth towards the enemy mages at the same time. Once the dragon was perfectly aligned over the rock's surface, Coldsnap jumped off its rear saddle and joined her allies in riding the waves while the dragon itself flew away to cause more havoc.
"I've never felt more useless in anything than right now. By the way, how'd things go with Galeforce?" Firebird asked half-jokingly, with an already-knowing smile on her face. "You and him get off on the wrong foot?"
"Uhhh.....yeah."
"Figured. The moment I saw you abandon him to the flood, I was just like, 'Okay, no, she must be doing that for a reason.'"
Keena got everyone's attention. "I'll direct the currents to bring us to the exit!" she called. "Just focus on surviving until we get there!"
"Roger!" Geode responded with a nod.
Unfortunately, by now, the Storm Sect was aware of Coldsnap and co.'s presence within Skycrest itself.....and thus, their escape from Galeforce's office. Plus, the huge flood that Keena had caused didn't exactly help them to "stay hidden".
Some of the surviving storm mages braved the waters and climbed to the tops of the ruined buildings. Then, they began hurling lightning bolts down at the rock platform that the heroes were riding on, much to their alarm. Even if the lightning bolts missed the rock, they would still hit the water and electrify it, spelling grave consequences to anyone who fell in while it was charged.
"I got you, Kiki," Coldsnap said gently, providing Keena with some protection by erecting a medium-sized ice wall behind her—to ensure she couldn't be hit.....at least from the back—then assisting Firebird and Geode in evading the Storm Sect's attacks. One lightning bolt barreled toward Firebird, but she bent her body backwards and successfully dodged it, causing it to impact harmlessly on an already-destroyed building.
Any fire-based powers she used would more than likely be extinguished immediately in the current environment, but there was still one tool she could still use.
