We last read Chapter 15, where chief advisor Wallace Weiss meets up with the President of the United States shortly after he gets out of surgery followed the failed assassination attempt on him that was thwarted by Coldsnap and her ice mages. Believing that the French were responsible for the attack—and that the Russians were also guilty of trying to bomb the Hoover Dam in Boulder City, Nevada—Weiss pushes the President to retaliate with a double strike against both "offending countries", an action that would surely start World War III, with him and his security detail then leaving the President for the night to get a good night's sleep and come up with a decision. Meanwhile, Firebird, Keena, and Geode manage to get out of their cages and discover that Commander Windsor Galeforce and the Storm Sect were responsible for the torrential flood in the Grand Terminus, with Keena taking the helm and officially commandeering their plans for revenge while they also set out to find Coldsnap and get her to safety. This time, we watch as Coldsnap tries to build bridges with Galeforce, while two of the other Sect Leaders strike back against the Storm Sect for their heinous, watery act......

"Welcome to Skycrest!" Galeforce said. "The Storm Sect's home region and base of operations!"
".....I'm still keeping my guard up, you know," Coldsnap insisted as she remained at Galeforce's side while he walked her through the banished capital. Several storm mages tried to approach her aggressively, seeing her as a "foreigner", but Galeforce firmly instructed them to stand down, a gesture which would have touched anyone else's heart.....but only made Coldsnap even more suspicious.
Soon, Coldsnap and Galeforce came to one of the outer edges of the central island, standing before a strong air stream that could transport anyone to the next floating island with ease.
Galeforce stepped in front and slightly to the side of Coldsnap, gesturing to the air current courteously.
"This will take us to the park. Ladies first," he said.
Whatever. I can call the ice dragon if I end up falling, Coldsnap resolved. She then jumped down into the wind current and reacted with surprise as it managed to carry her entire body over the expansive sea of clouds below and safely onto the next floating island, which resembled a huge park of sorts. Galeforce was the next to follow, landing next to her.
He looked out at the expanse in all its glory. "Beautiful, isn't it?"
".....Why have you brought me here? And why couldn't my friends come along?"
".....You're just going to keep asking questions, aren't you?"
".....Yes! You kidnapped us!"
Galeforce smirked, clearly amused with how much he was making Coldsnap lose her cool. He led her to one of the park benches and insisted she sit next to him.....which she did, albeit with great reluctance.
"Now will you tell me everything?"
"Of course. I am Commander Windsor Galeforce, the leader of the Storm Sect and the overseer of the Storm Sect mages."
".....Do I look like I've ever heard of you before?"
"No, you don't. Because no one has."
"I'm sorry, what?!"
"At the Mage Aspects' conception, five factions were created from The Ascendant's sheer willpower alone; the Ice Sect, the Fire Sect, the Water Sect, the Earth Sect, and the Storm Sect."
