She felt numb. Her whole world collapsed around her and there was nothing she could do about it. She felt alone, really alone. But the truth hadn't really begun to sink in until she exited the emergency room and had to relay the news to her boyfriend. She was now broken in ways that should have been deemed unnatural but to her, it felt like it was right yet unfair.
She sobbed and screamed in agony but it would never amount to the pain of losing her mother the way she did. She wanted to tell her family what she really felt but that would result in her getting kicked out with no money and no place to call home — not that it was much of a home anymore. Now that the only person that defended her was gone, it seemed to give her family a reason to look at her as more of a fuckup. Her mother's death was all the ammunition they needed to make her feel worthless and she hated it. She hated them for the way they made her feel. It wasn't her fault that her mother's time had come, yet her irrational relatives used it to hurt her more than ever deserved to be hurt in her lifetime.
Her boyfriend, Jordan, was a quarterback and a dam good one. He skipped out on his football practice after hearing the message he got from her. He knew that her mom was in the hospital but he never knew it was this bad until he found her waiting outside of the entrance to the emergency room, barely keeping herself together. He got out of his car as quickly as he could and held her, hoping that he was giving her some comfort despite knowing that it would never be enough. She'd told you — her best friend and you were already worrying about her the moment you'd heard about her mother's hospitalisation. Getting a text about the loss of your best friend's mother instantly increased your worry for the shattered girl.
After getting that dreaded text, you tried calling her but she declined your call, telling you that she wasn't taking any calls until further notice. She needed space to deal with losing her mom, her protector against the toxicity she constantly and consistently received from her family and never before had she ever felt so lost. She knew that somehow, she needed to pull herself together and let Jordan guide her to his car and so she let him do so. He was a bit shocked at her zombie-like state, tears refusing to fall, hugging herself and he placed a sweet kiss on her temple, walking at her pace and guided her into the passenger seat of his cherry red mustang. With a final look of worry and slight fear, he moved quickly to the drivers seat, starting the car and setting off to their quiet place. He had no idea what was running through her head at that moment but he hoped it wouldn't send her off a cliff because she couldn't take the pain.
He quietly turned the car off upon reaching their destination and rushed to her side to help her out of the car like a gentleman but he doubted that she would even register, much less remember his kind actions, all things considered. He didn't know how to show her that she wasn't alone and that she had support from her friends if her family really was as toxic as she'd described to him in one of their deep conversations about their parents.
Considering the time, he'd given up his jacket as wrapped it around her shoulders, walking with her until she stopped suddenly and fell to her knees, crying, Jordan catching her before she could really hurt herself. He held her tight, scared of letting go and she released everything she felt while he stayed silent until she was ready to say something. He pulled her onto his lap as she wrapped her arms around him and held him so tight that she could feel his heartbeat if she focused on it. She cried and sobbed into his shoulder where her head currently resided and when he felt her sobs and cries slowing, he stood up with her in his arms and made his way back to his bright coloured car, gently placing his exhausted girlfriend in the passenger seat and secured his jacket on her body then he secured the seatbelt, moving to the drivers seat, buckling himself in and drove in silence until he reached his home.
He knew he had to explain why he skipped practice to his dad — who was also his coach — amongst other things but he only cared about the girl to his right and how to help her through such a difficult time. He'd texted his twin sister to open the front door a bit so he could just push it open but didn't explain why. His sister wondered why he'd need a favour like this but did as he asked anyway, knowing that she'd get answers soon enough. He arrived home and carried his broken girlfriend into the house, his parents at the ready with questions of his whereabouts and lack of communication.
The Bakers were quickly silenced by the sleeping girl in his arms and he paid them no mind as he beelines his way to his bedroom, ready to tuck the girl into his bed so she could sleep with no disruptions. After leaving his bedroom door slightly ajar, he returned to the kitchen where his family was waiting for answers. "I know I should have said something but I couldn't until I got her in bed," he started his story of how his afternoon and now evening went. Olivia, knew that Jordan wouldn't just ditch or do something like this so she kept quiet as he told his family about his girlfriend losing her mom and every single detail of how he felt about her.
Needless to say, they were shocked, for many reasons. His dedication to her, the things he did for her, his fears for her. His family watched as he cried for the girl asleep on his room, guiding him to the couch where he was then embraced his mom and sister whose hearts broke for the boy, seeing how much he already loved the girl and how great his fear of losing her consumed him. It had been his only thought throughout the day and he knew he'd never be the same again but refused to admit the intensity of his feelings and would only say something once she was in a better space, no matter how long it would take. She needed to know that she would never be alone with him around. He was ready to distract her by any means necessary even if he had to dress up as a Disney princess and serenade her, he'd do it just to see her breathtaking smile even for a second.
What he didn't know was the girl in question was standing at the entrance of the kitchen, listening to his retelling of the day's events. She now knew that she wasn't alone with the way he reacted to her behaviour and the emotions that went through him just trying to support her on a suddenly difficult day. Without a second thought, she rushed forward and hugged his head to her chest, tears freefalling down her cheeks. The hurt boy hugged back tighter than he'd hugged her when she had fallen to her knees earlier in the day. Watching their interaction, it was clear that they love each other, regardless of saying it out loud to each other.
As painful as it was to lose her mom, she now knew that she wouldn't have to go through any of it alone. Not anymore. Not when she had a best friend that almost broke the front door of the Baker household, trying to get to your best friend but you stopped in your tracks after seeing her embrace Jordan and it was then that you knew that she'd be loved by someone other than you — you loving her as a best friend would.

Hi everyone. I wrote this imagine for my best friend who lost her mom and I wrote it for her two year anniversary of her passing because I know I won't be able to physically be with my bestie on this difficult day but I'm gonna be there for her through the phone and be there for whatever she needs. I'm sorry if this made you feel emotional but my intention for this was to highlight the feeling of loneliness that can consume a person when they lose someone so close to them and I know that it takes them a while to realise that they have people that want to see them smile for no reason, laugh at the most ridiculous things ever because they also deserve to be happy and in an environment that allows them to grow despite the losses they've experienced. I hope you enjoyed this and don't hesitate to leave me a dm if you feel like nobody cares about you because I care. Without all of you reading this book of mine, I wouldn't be able to be proud of how many reads I've gotten so far and it all thanks to every single one of you that give my book the time of day and I appreciate each and every one of you for that.
