➳Luke's POV

Alaina cried into my shirt, sobs falling from her mouth. The moment that Riley's name left Alaina's pure mouth, anger boiled inside of me.

Even though I was outraged because I knew Riley would hurt Alaina, I couldn't do anything about it right now. I had to be here with Alaina. I had to comfort her and reassure her that I would do anything to protect her.

I picked Alaina up in my arms and carefully walked over to the couch. I sat down and cradled the broken girl in my arms.

No matter how much my heart broke for the girl that I have so helplessly fallen for, I had to be brave. I had to be strong for her.

"Let's get you cleaned up." I softly whispered.

I carried Alaina into my room and sat her softly down onto my bed.

I searched throughout the apartment to find a wash towel or anything to help clean Alaina's face, but of course I had been moping and decided to not wash anything so nothing was clean.

I pulled my shirt over my head and wet it with warm water.

After ringing the extra water from the shirt, I made my way back to my room.

Laying on my bed cuddled into the comforter was Alaina, sleeping.

All the crying and stress must have made her exhausted and she couldn't help, but fall asleep.

I chuckled at how small she looked in my dark comforter.

I walked over to her and slowly wiped away the tear stains and dry snot from her face.

I placed a soft peck atop of her head and quietly left her to rest.

———-

Soft padding of feet sounded down the hall and into the kitchen.

I quickly sent a text to Michael that said we needed to speak then placed my phone down.

My gaze left my phone and shifted to Alaina.

She had her shoes on and looked perfectly normal, not like she had been crying just about an hour ago?

"Do you want something to eat? I have some pizza I can make." I asked, not even bothering to bring up earlier.

She'll talk about it when she wants to.

She shook her head no, "Thanks, but I'm just going to go."

What the hell? Is she serious?

"What?" I was beyond confused.

Alaina made her way towards the door. I rushed over and caught the door knob before she could.

She stood before me desperately looking towards the door I was standing in front of.

"I appreciate you comforting me, but I should really go. It wasn't a good idea to come over. I don't know what I was thinking." She uttered more to herself than to me.

I hit the wall with my hand as I walked away from the door. I ran my hands over my face, frustrated with Alaina. Why would she come over and then just run off? It hurt me that she keeps getting hurt, but what hurt even more was me knowing that I was one of the people who hurt her.

I wanted to help her now and I thought she wanted me to help her too. I guess I was wrong.

She looked at me with sorrow in her eyes. Alaina just stood there watching me pick up a plate that I had eaten from earlier and shattering it on the floor.

"Fucking hell, Alaina! If you want to leave then leave!" I exclaimed.

At first she didn't move, but just flinched from my explosion.

"Leave!" I yelled once more.

"I'm sorry, Luke. I just- let's pretend like this never happened." And with that the girl of my dreams left me alone in my sorrow. Again.
