➳Chapter 2

➳Luke's POV

I sat by my bed, in the hospital, waiting to leave. I've been in the hospital for about a week, the doctor wanted to make sure that I was okay before he let me leave.

Before I had asked my mum if I could go see Alaina before we left, of course she said yes. "Everything is in the car. Ready to go see Alaina?" Mum asked. I nodded my head yes then stood up, following my mum towards Alaina's room.

I haven't gotten to see her yet, so I'm actually quite nervous.

The doctor said she still hasn't awoke, which made me really worried.

The door to the room was opened, so we went ahead into the room. I looked at Alaina to see her laying there with some bruises on her arms. She also had a purplish/black bruise on her cheekbone. I could also see where the doctors say they think she hit her head.

I walked towards the hospital bed and grabbed Alaina's hand, it felt cold & clammy feeling. I shook my head, "She tried to tell me." I said.

My mum cocked her head at me, "What do you mean?"

"She tried to tell me that the car was coming towards us." I said, feeling a lump in my throat. Then a tear escaped my eye.

"I should've paid attention. If I did then she wouldn't be like this. It's all my fault." I said, silently. Mum rubbed my back, "It wasn't your fault. I'm going to go wait in the car. Come out whenever you're ready." Then she walked out.

I kept staring at Alaina.

"I'm so sorry. Please just wake up. I need you. Please." I was full on crying now, not being able to hold back the tears.

I've been sitting here by Alaina for about 25 minutes, I forgot all about my mum waiting in the car. I decided I should go.

I grabbed Alaina's hand, one more time before leaving, and kissed the back of it. "I have to go right now, but I'll be back tomorrow morning. I promise." I leaned down and gave her a kiss on the forehead, "I love you." Then I left.

I got back home to find out that my mum had threw a welcome home party for me.

Seriously? I was just in the hospital, it's not like I went to war or anything?

But I just went along with everything. It was hard to focus in anything because all I could think about was Alaina.

Why won't she wake up? I didn't think that the wreck was that bad?

My thoughts were interrupted by one of my best friends, Calum. "Hey mate, I'm glad you're okay." He said, giving me a hug.

"Thanks, mate." I said, not really with a lot of energy.

"I'll see you later, I'm gonna go up to my room for a bit." I said, making my way up the stairs in my house.

Calum got that I just wanted to be alone and went over to some girl.

I was up in my room, just staring at the ceiling when I heard a knock on my door.

"Come in!"

"Hun, why aren't you downstairs? Everybody is starting to leave and some people haven't even seen you yet." My mum said, poking her head into my room.

"I don't really feel so well. I just want to be alone or a while, if that's alright." I said, trying my best not to hurt my mum's feelings.

She nodded her head like she understood then left.

I kept staring at the ceiling, until I drifted off to sleep.

"Please don't let me fall!" Alaina said, grabbing onto me tighter.

"Alaina, it's just a piggyback ride. It's not like you'll die if I let go of you." I chuckled.

"You don't know that! What if I fall and hit my head on a rock and die?" She exclaimed. I just ignored her and kept running up the hill, towards the treehouse that she loved was located.

"Trust me Alaina, I'd never let you get hurt. I'll protect you, even if that means hurting myself." I said, setting her back onto the ground.

She wrapped her arms around me, "Promise?"

"Promise." I have her a quick kiss then watched her run towards the treehouse.

I woke up to my alarm clock going off. I shut it off then headed downstairs. As I was eating I thought back to the dream I had, well it was more of a flashback.

Once I ate breakfast and got ready I headed straight to the hospital, to go see Alaina.

I was the only one there at first because I decided to come alone and Alaina's parents had to work. Also she has no siblings.

Of course her parents came later on.

I was sitting beside the bed when the doctor came into the room.

"Sir, I need to talk to her parents in private for a while, do you mind standing in the hall?"

I agreed and stood outside. I couldn't hear anything since they had shut the door, but I was so anxious to figure out what was going on.

After waiting for about 10 minutes the doctor came rushing out of the door and told some nurse to come back to the room with him.

I peeked thru the doorway to see if everything was okay. Then I saw what was going on.

Alaina woke up.

"Where am I? What's going on?" She panicked. I watched by the door. I had asked to go in, but the doctor said that Alaina needed her space and with the nurse, him, and her parents, he didn't want anyone who wasn't immediate family there.

"You're in the hospital. You've also been in a car wreck and luckily have nothing broke, but you do have a bump on your head. Does your head hurt?" The doctor asked. Alaina just kept looking around towards everybody.

"Yes, but who are these people?" She pointed towards her parents.

"Those are your parents, do you remember them?"

Alaina shook her head no.

"Do you remember what your name is? Or how old you are?"

"Yes, I'm Alaina and I'm 17 years old."

The doctor took out a notepad and took notes.

"How far back do you remember?" Everyone sat silently, waiting for her response.

"I remember back to me being in a treehouse, that I had just found." She answered.

She had told me that she found the treehouse when she was 11.

"Do you remember anything after that?" The doctor asked.

"No."

The doctor talked to Alaina's parents and then said I could come back into the room.

"So, what's wrong?" I asked the doctor.

"It appears that Alaina has some memory loss, but her memory may come back." The doctor explained.

I nodded my head in understanding, "Do you at least remember me?" I asked Alaina, just hoping that she will.

"No, sorry." She answered.

All the hope I had drained out of me, just by those two words.
