➳ Alaina's POV
When I was in Luke's car he pulled out a penny from his pocket and handed it to me, "What am I supposed to do with this?"
I looked at the fresh clean penny and started to flip it up in the air and catch it.
I looked over at Luke still waiting for him to answer why I was holding a penny after he had just made me sneak out of my house right before I was about to go to bed.
"We are going on a Penny Date." Luke said with a smile.
What the hell is a Penny Date?
Wait, he just said this was a date? I could feel the butterflies start to form within my stomach and we hadn't even done anything.
"Wait, it's a date?" I smirked.
Luke just shrugged his shoulders with a smile, "I thought I could help you relive your first date."
The thought of Luke trying to relive what I forgot was really sweet. It also meant that he actually listened to me the other day.
"So, I've done this before?" I questioned.
Luke nodded his head yes.
"So, what do we do with this?" I said holding up the penny.
"Choose a number between ten and twenty."
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, but went along with it. "Sixteen?"
Luke started to drive. We stopped at the first intersection we got to, but Luke didn't continue driving even when everyone had already left. So we where alone with each other at an
intersection."Okay, you picked the number sixteen?" Luke said, it came out as more of a question.
I nodded my head yes.
"That's the number of times I need you to flip the penny. Heads is right and tails is left. Whichever you get is which direction we will go. Once we flip the penny sixteen times we stop the car. Wherever we end up stopping is where our date is going to take place." Luke explained.
He acted like this was something that he did everyday. It was a unique idea, but what if we end up at a garbage place?
I was still trying to see if I understood what Luke said, but then Luke started to talk, "Flip it."
He pointed at the penny.
I just did as he said. I watched the shiny, clean, bronze penny flip through the air. I caught the penny in the palm of my hand and looked to see which side it landed on.
"Heads." I said aloud.
Luke turned right.
"Get ready to flip the penny again."
------
I watched as the light from the moon shined on Luke's face as he drove. He had his eyebrows furrowed together and was focusing on the road.
The light shown on his features that I had grown to slowly love. I couldn't help, but admire the way that his nose turned up at the end or the way his eyelashes fluttered open and close with his eyelids or his plump lips that would gap open in focus.
As I was focusing more on Luke, the car came to a stop.
"We're here." Luke said, turning towards me showing a genuine smile.
I looked around at the surroundings outside of the car.
A car lot?
"Are we seriously having a date at almost 10:30 at night in a car lot?" I questioned.
Luke unlocked the car doors.
"I guess so." He said, getting out of the car and going to the trunk of it.
I slowly got out of the car, my little night slippers coming in contact with the dew that had started to settle on the green blades of grass.
Luckily the car lot wasn't in a very busy area, so we didn't have a ton of cars driving by. Luke had parked the car across the street, so it wouldn't look that suspicious.
"Can't we get in trouble for doing this?" I asked, following Luke.
Luke just climbed under an opening in the fence. It wasn't connected for some reason. It's not like the hole was big enough to steal a car, but it was big enough for a teenager to fit through it.
"Probably, but that's the fun of it." Luke smirked down at me.
I looked around once we were in. The car lot wasn't very popular, so I guess they didn't have any security or anything.
"What now?" Me and Luke just stood around for a while.
Luke was looking around to find something for us to do.
"Go climb into the bed of that truck and I'll be right back." Luke pointed towards a red truck.
Luke woke me up to go on a date at 10 at night, then brought me to a car lot for a date, now he wanted me to climb into a random truck? This boy really is crazy.
I did as Luke said and climbed into the bed of the truck.
Luke left to go who knows where and I was alone in the dark of night in the back of the bed of a truck. My mind just started to think about different things as I waited.
Oh gosh, I probably look like a mess!
Please don't let my breath smell bad!
This is my first date after all, I should look at least a little bit decent!
I brushed my fingers through my hair and rubbed my face to wake myself up some more.
Luke finally came back with a big trash bag.
"You're not planning on murdering me are you? Because if you are atleast do it somewhere cooler than in a car lot." I said, jokingly.
Luke rolled his blue eyes at me, "Shut up, it's pillows and a couple blankets."
Thank god Luke brung blankets because now it was getting chilly and these pajamas weren't really keeping me warm.
I helped Luke put out the pillows and blankets into the bed of the truck.
"So, what are we going to do out here?" I asked, curious to what Luke had planned.
"Nothing, that's all we're going to do. We're just going to sit or lay and watch the stars." Luke said, laying on his back and looking up at the stars.
I copied Luke's actions.
We stayed like that for about twenty minutes. Every now and then we would have a little conversation, but mostly we listened to the crickets and the nature that was around the car lot. It wasn't an awkward silence, it was peaceful and comforting.
"So, which star do you think is the most beautiful?" I asked, turning to face Luke.
Luke turned to face me. He propped his head up with his arm and turned to lay on his side. He stared straight into my eyes not breaking eye contact with me.
"It's not the stars that I think is beautiful. You're what I think is beautiful, Alaina."
