Yesterday had been Y/n's birthday, a day that was meant to be filled with joy and celebration. But for some reason, it slipped the minds of Taylor and Joe.

The guilt of their actions kept them up all night. Whereas for Y/n, she cried herself to sleep with Benji in her arms.

As the sun began to rise, casting a warm glow over the sleepy town, Y/n woke up and opened her eyes.

"Shit" She swore as that familiar stinging pain hit her eyes. Crying all night had a few negatives.

Taylor was layed on her back in her bed, feeling guilty as she remembered Y/n's heartache.

Joe was next to her, his body sprawled out on the bed, but his head nuzzled in Taylors neck.

She couldn't understand how he got any sleep after yesterday. She stroked his hair, and he started to wake up.

" 'Ello love." He joked and looked up at Taylor. She admired him for a few seconds, but then her mind flipped back to her eldest daughter.

She whispered to Joe, "We need to do something special for Y/n. We can't let her feel this way any longer." They both looked at each other, determined to make up for their grave oversight.

They knew they had their work cut out for them because Y/n was a resilient and independent soul. She got that from her mother. She had always been mature for her age, often taking care of her younger siblings and working hard to excel in her studies. But Taylor and Joe also knew that deep down, Y/n longed for the love and attention any child desired.

Taylor got up, and gently knocked on Y/n's bedroom door, her voice soft and filled with remorse. "Y/n, sweetheart, can we talk?" Despite her reluctance, Y/n opened the door. She was wearing her plaid pajama bottoms and an incredibly large hoodie, with the hood up. She looked like a mess.

Y/n's face was a mixture of sadness and confusion, her eyes extremely puffy from the tears she had shed in secret. Taylor sighed deeply, her heart breaking for her daughter. "I am so sorry, Y/n. We should have remembered your birthday. It was inexcusable for us to overlook it."

Joe stood behind Taylor, his eyes filled with regret. "We were so consumed with the chaos of taking care of the twins, that we lost sight of what truly mattered. We promise to make it up to you, Y/n. We want to make your day special, even if it's a day late."

Y/n crossed her arms, visibly hesitant. She had built a wall of protection around herself, not wanting to be hurt any further. "Why should I believe you? You say the same things every time. You need to stop blaming it on the twins, it's purely you two. And I don't want empty promises. Birthdays only come once a year, I can't redo yesterday."

Taylor sighed. "You're right, Y/n, and we can't change the past. But we can change the present and the future. We'll make today just as special, if not more, than your actual birthday."

Joe chimed in, his voice sincere. "We'll plan a day filled with all the things you love. Whether it's going out for a special meal, watching your favorite movies, or even going on a mini-shopping spree, the choice is entirely yours."
