Part 8 - A New Beginning

A new day. A new beginning. Today it's my first day of work and I'm more than excited to join William's team. I know in my first weeks or months, I will do the dirty work. I'm sure he won't get me involved in something big. But I'm happy with everything. At least, I'm working.

I start work at 9am and I woke up at 7 due to my excitement. I had a light breakfast, some overnight oats with fruits. After having breakfast, I start to get ready for the day. I curl my hair and I add some make-up on my face. Just a little bit of concealer under my eyes, mascara on my lashed and a peachy lipstick. I picked my clothes last night and I decided to go with something classic: a white shirt without sleeves and a skirt reaching my knees. I also added some black pumps and my black bag and I'm ready for my first day of work.

I leave my apartment and I go to my car. I start it and I drive to my workplace. After 15 minutes, I park my car in the special parking lot for the employees. I walk in the building and I'm greeted by William.

"Good morning, Josephine."

"Good morning, Mr. Davis."

"Oh, please." He laughs. "You can call me William or Will, as you like."

"You are my boss."

"I know. But I like to be on the same page as my employers."

"Okay, William."

"I know you might want to have an easy start, but one of my interior designers had an accident this weekend and she's going to miss work. She was my principal designer in a project and I want you to take care of it until she's coming back. Riley will tell you everything about this project and she will help you with everything. Now, excuse me, but I have to be in a meeting. Good luck!" He says and he walks upstairs.

Okay... that was really strange. But it looks like I'm going to have a big project. Incredible! But where is this girl? She has to explain me everything about this project.

"Uhm, Josephine?" I turn around only to see a brunette, dressed with a denim overalls. She must be Riley.

"Yeah, that's me. You must be Riley, right? William told me that we are going to work together."

"That's right. Let's go to our office." We walk to our office where there are a lot of books and designs. "This is where we are going to work. And this is the project." She hands me a file. "It's about a coffee shop. We have to design it. It's just a plain space and we have to make something nice from it. Erica just talked with the owner and there are some notes with what he would like the coffee shop to look. What styles and colors to use."

"Alright. Can we see the place?"

"We have a meeting with the client tomorrow morning. Until then, we have to find some ideas."

"Alright." I open the file and I start to read it.

Coffee shop. Colors preffered: black, white, brown, green. Plants. The opportunity to have coffee on the go. Pastries.

Around 13pm, we take a lunch break and  we go to a small restaurant a few streets away from the firm.

"You finished college recently?"

"Nope. I graduated three years ago. But I never worked. It's my first job."

"Oh, that's really nice. It didn't seem like that, Jo. There were people who doesn't know anything. You have experience."

"Thank you." I smile and I continue to work. "Are you working for long for William?"

"Yeah, I'm working with him for two years, since he started his business. It's a young team and William is the best boss."
