Hero
Three years later...
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to Noah! Happy birthday to you!" We sing to my son on his third birthday and he smiles at us with his blue eyes and blonde hair, resembling his mother's look.
"Blow the candles darling and make a wish!" Jo says and Noah blows the candle and we claps our hands. My baby boy is not a baby anymore.
"I'm three, mummy! I'm a big boy now!"
"Yes, you are. We love you to the moon and back."
"I love you."
Me and Jo take the cake and we go in our kitchen to cut it and serve the people who attended our son's birthday party.
In the last three years, a lot changed in our lives. After Noah was born, when he was two months old, we came back to London. The apartment was ready for us and we started a new routine. In these years, me and Jo opened a business together, a real estate agency. I work with the papers and contracts, while Jo helps every client to find the perfect place and she even do designs for houses and apartments. We're working for more than a year and I couldn't ask for something else.
We also moved out of my apartment a few weeks ago. We found a house when we started our business and we decided to buy it. It's somewhere in the suburbs and it's perfect for our family. It has a huge yard where Noah can play all day long, the house has a garage, a kitchen, a bathroom, a living room and a guest romm. At the first floor there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
"I'm really curious what Noah wished for..."
"What do you think? He wished that he could eat chocolate at breakfast, lunch and dinner." We both laugh and I kiss Jo's shoulder.
"I also made a wish."
"You did?" she asks me while she cuts slieces of Noah's cake.
"Yeah. I wished for another baby. I think it's time."
"Hero... I thought we talked about it."
"Noah is also asking for a little brother."
"I'm not ready, yet."
"It's been three years, blondie."
"It's not that. We're full at work and Noah..."
"You don't want to have another baby with me?"
"It's not that, Hero..."
"The what it is?" I turn her to me and I can see she's almost crying."
"Why you want to spoil the surprises?"
"Huh?"
"I'm pregnant." She says and I hug her. "But I don't know what's happening. I'm spotting and I'm scared."
"Oh, baby... Why you didn't tell me?"
"I wanted to be done with Noah's birthday party. I didn't want to stress you with this."
"We're together, blondie. Anything what is bothering you, you have to tell me."
"Maybe it's nothing, Hero. I called the doctor and she said it might be the implantation bleeding. I scheduled an appointment tomorrow, just to be sure."
"I'm really happy." I smile and I peck her lips. "I'm sure it's nothing. And we're going to give Noah a little sister."
"Let's forget we had this conversation for the night, okay?"
"Okay. Let's give them the cake."
We finish cutting the cake and we go to serve it to our guests. After a few hours, everyone is gone and we spot Noah sleeping on the floor. It was an exhausting day for him. He skipped his nap and now, he's asleep. But I'm not going to wake him up. I gently lift him up and I take him to his bedroom. I tuck him in and I leave the room.
"He's out." I say as I hug her from behind.
"It was a busy day. He had a lot of fun."
"He was really excited about this birthday party."
"Are you feeling okay, blondie?"
"Yeah. I'm nervous about tomorrow."
"Everything will be alright. May I join you?"
"Of course! You are the father, Hero." She giggles and I kiss her cheek.
The next day...
"You are four weeks and three days pregnant. The embryo seems to be implantated in the right place. What you experienced was the implantation bleeding, as I mentioned on our phone call. Sadly, it's too early to hear the heartbeat. But in two weeks, we will be able to hear it."
"So it's not a miscarriage?"
"No. The embryo seems to be fixed and I'll see you in two weeks for another ultrasound, okay?"
"Yes."
"I recommend you to avoid making too much effort due your problems with your first pregnancy."
"Okay."
We leave the doctor's office and we go to the car.
"See? Everything is alright." I grab her hand.
"We are ready for this, Hero?"
"We are ready. We have a 3 years old boy. We weren't ready when he came, but look at us... We did a really good job with him."
"Maybe it's a girl, this time." She smiles and I lean on to kiss her.
"It doesn't matter. I want a healthy baby and a healthy mummy, okay?"
"Okay. I love you, Hero."
"I love you, Jo."
