Part 19 - Kidnap

Josephine

As I hear what the nurse tells me, I immediately hung up.

"Jo! Are you okay?"

"Yeah." I sigh.

"Who called?"

"From the hospital. I have anemia." I won't tell him right now.

"Oh..."

"I'm okay." I try to smile, but it's a fake one. And he doesn't buy it.

"Spill it out, love. What they told you?"

"That's all, Hero. It's just anemia. I will go to see the doctor and I will be fine soon, I promise. Now, excuse me, my appetite disappeared." I get up and I take my bag.

"What? No. Sit down. Let's eat together."

"I'm not hungry anymore. I'm going back to work. I will see you later."

"Josephine... Please. Wait until I will finish my lunch, then I'm taking you to your workplace."

"I'm going alone. I will be fine, I promise." I quickly peck his lips and I leave before he can say anything.

The news I got are mind-blowing. How this could happen? We used condoms every time. We were always careful, but here I am, pregnant. I don't even know if Hero wants a baby. But I'm sure he doesn't. With this war between our families, I don't know if a baby will make the things better. But what I know for sure is that I don't want to have an abortion. I always wanted to be a young mother and if running our from my family will let me be a mother, I will do it without thinking twice.

After a day where I wasn't paying attention to my work, I finally arrive home. And in the front of my door I find Hero.

"What are you doing here?" I ask as I unlock the door and we both get inside.

"Tell me what happened, Jo. I know it's more than what you said."

"It's just what I told you." I laugh nervously. "I can't do anything if you don't believe me." I take off my shoes and I walk upstairs to get changed.

"I feel like you are lying to me."

"I'm not lying. I'm not feeling good, okay? I'm going to see the doctor and I will follow a treatment."

"Okay... Did you eat something?" He sighs and I know he's going to scoff me for not eating all day.

"Yeah, I ordered a salad. I'm okay. I'm an adult and I can take care of myself, Hero."

"I know that. But you we're sick in the last days and I'm worried. Can you understand that?"

"I can."

"Good. I don't want to fight with you from stupid things, okay?" I walk to him and I wrap my arms around his neck.

"We didn't end the conversation about our families."

"Please, don't start. I don't want to hear it. You won't play their game and that's end of discussion."

"Okay. I won't go."

"Well, see how easy it was? You should have said this before to start a fight!"

"I'm sorry."

"You should be." I peck his lips. "Are you staying?"

"Yeah. Let's have a shower together."

"Uh-huh."

"Why not?"

"I'm on my period." Liar.

"And what?"

"You know I don't like to have sex on my period."

"Alright." He rolls his eyes.

"Don't roll you eyes at me. You are not a child!"

"I am." I giggle.

"Hero?"

"Yes, love?"

"Blondie. I said I like blondie more."

"Yes, blondie."

"Do you want kids in the future?"

"In the near future, no. In a few years, after our families will make peace, yes. Why?"

"It's just a curiosity. I'm going to take a quick shower."

"Okay. Do you want me to order dinner or do you want us to cook?"

"Let's cook. You should go and buy ingredients."

"What do you want?"

"Anything."

"Alright. I will be back soon."

"Okay." He kisses me, then he leaves.

I quickly walk in the bathroom and I take a pregnancy test. I know those tests results are 100% sure, but I need to know it. The result comes on the digital test. It's says I'm pregnant in +3 weeks. Oh, wow. I didn't expect it. I don't even know when it happened... I didn't miss my period. I don't know what's happening, but I have no idea how I will tell Hero. He wants kids, but not now. How I'm going to do this alone? Or what if this baby will stop this war between our families?

A few days later...

I walk in Will's office without knocking. I'm desperate.

"Where is Jo?"

"Huh?"

"Where is Josephine?"

"She didn't came to work today. She always announced that she's not coming. I don't know what happened. I think you should be the one knowing."

"I don't know where she is. I haven't seen her since yesterday morning. She doesn't answer at her fucking phone. She's not at her place."

"Okay, calm down."

"I can't calm down, Will! My girlfriend, fiancée is missing and I know nothing about her."

"She's not at her house?"

"No."

"Her friend's place?"

"Checked. Not there. Something happened and I think my father is involved in this."

"Now, man... How?"

"Our families are enemies. And me and Jo spent a lot of time together in the last time and I suppose they found out. What if they kidnapped her?"

"Jesus, that's not possible."

"You don't know the Fiennes."

"I know you."

"I'm different, Will. I don't know what to do!"

"Do you want to look on the cameras to see if there was something wrong around?"

"Would you let me do that?"

"Yeah."

Me and Will go to the IT guy and we look carefully on the screen. I find something really interesting. I spot Nick scanning the building. Motherfucker. I knew it!

I leave, without saying a word. I go to my car and I drive like a crazy man to Nick's place. I know he scanned the building and he knows that Jo works there. But I don't think he kidnapped her, but he is involved in a way or another.

As I arrive at his place, I get inside without knocking. Good because he is home.

"Where is she?"

"Huh? What are you talking about, Hero?"

"Where is she?!" I grab him by the collar of his t-shirt. He was as a second father to me, but Jo, my girlfriend, my fiancée, my future wife, is more important than him and I would even kill for her.

"Who are you talking about?!" He pushes me back.

"Josephine Langford! Where are they keeping her? Tell me now!"
