Hero
As we enter in our apartment, I see Jo's brother sitting on the couch.
Jake: "You have exactly 30 minutes to pack your bag before we go home."
Hero: "How the fuck did you got inside?" I sit in front of Josephine, wanting to protect her.
Jake: "Your sister doesn't know who I am. I told her I'm a friend." He smirks. "Josephine, you better go and pack your stuff now. If you want this to be nice and friendly." He takes out a gun and I feel Jo wrapping her arms around my torso. She's scared and she doesn't need this stress.
Hero: "Josephine, go upstairs and lock yourself there, alright, love?"
Jo: "Yes." She says and she runs downstairs. A few moments later, I hear her locking the door. Good girl.
"Jesus, what did you do to her?" He gets up. "She's not your slave!"
"No, she's not. I just want to protect her from you."
"From me? I am protecting her from you! You kidnapped her!"
"I didn't."
"No, you just ordered it."
"My family did kidnap her, but I saved her bringing her here!"
"Your family is bad, really bad."
"You think I don't know?!" I yell. "Leave."
"I will leave, but only if Jo comes with me."
"Over my dead body."
"We can solve it." He laughs pointing the gun towards me.
"I love her, why is so hard to understand?"
"I don't give a shit."
"You should. She's my wife."
"That's not possible."
"It is possible. We're happily married for a few weeks already." I'm two steps from telling him about the baby. But should I tell him?
"You couldn't do this."
"Yes, we did it. Do you want to show you our marriage certificate?"
"No. It's just a paper. It's not valid in London. You made a fake certificate."
"It's real, Jake."
"No!"
"And we're having a baby."
"What?"
"Josephine is pregnant and that's why we decided to move here. We wanted to have a simple life without this war between our families."
"You can't have that. She's coming home with me."
"What you can't understand, Jake?! She's my wife and she stays here."
"Hero!!!" I hear Jo yelling from our bedroom and I immediately run upstairs.
"Baby, what's wrong?" I walk in the bathroom and I see her sitting on the toilet, a little bit of blood on her hand. No. No. This isn't possible.
"I think I'm losing the baby, Hero!" She yells and I kneel in front of her.
"This is not going to happen!" I say and I help her get up and we rush downstairs.
Jake: "Jo?"
Jo: "Leave! I don't want to see you!" She screams. "If I'm losing the baby it's only your fault, Jake!" I see tears and hate in her eyes and my heart broke for my sweet girl.
We leave in a hurry to the hospital. I took her to the ER and we wait for a doctor. A nurse came in and she did some routine tests, then Dr. Smith came in. Thank God it's her!
Dr. Smith: "What happened?"
Jo: "I started bleeding. Please, tell me the baby's fine!"
Dr. Smith: "Hey, please, calm down. Do you have any pain?"
Jo: "N... No."
Dr. Smith: "Good. The bleeding is heavy?"
Jo: "Not that heavy." She sighs.
Dr. Smith: "Let's do an ultrasound and see what's happening inside." Jo quickly uncovers her small belly, then Dr. Smith starts the ultrasound by putting some gel on Jo's skin. A few minutes of silence seems like an eternity. "The baby is fine. We have a heartbeat." She presses a button and we hear the baby's heartbeat. Jo starts to cry and I kiss her hand. Thank God the baby's good. "Strong baby here. As I can see the bleeding comes from that hematoma. Did you do a lot of physical effort or did you stress?"
Hero: "We have some unexpected guests and it stressed her out."
Dr. Smith: "Please, eliminate the stress. It's not good for the baby. You are likely to go on pre-term labor and no one wants this, okay?"
Jo: "Okay."
Dr. Smith: "I recommend you to continue the bed rest."
Hero: "We're going to do anything so we can have a healthy baby in a few months."
Dr. Smith: "Good. Then, I'll see you in three weeks. If something happens again, call me, okay?"
Jo: "Yes, we will. Thank you."
I help Jo to get dressed, then we leave back home. I'm surprised to still see Jake there. Meanwhile, Denise joined him.
Hero: "She told you to leave! Leave before I take you out with force."
Jake: "Sis..."
Jo: "Please, leave. I don't need you in my life Jake. I'm building my family here and because of you, I almost lost my baby. I don't want to see you again!" She has tears in her eyes and I hate that she has to do this.
Jake: "I... I'm sorry, Jo..."
Jo: "I don't need to hear your excuses!" She yells and I squeeze her shoulders as a sign to take it easy.
Hero: "I'm taking her upstairs and I want you gone when I'm back." I lead Jo up the stairs in our bedroom.
"Do you think I was too harsh on him?"
"No. He deserves it. Because of him we almost lost the baby."
"I wish everything will become normal as the baby comes on the world. I really want him or her to know his grandparents, aunts and uncles. Without fighting."
"Me too, love. Me too."
