Jo
Having Mia in New York with me is really nice, but... I miss Hero. Even if we talk through FaceTime, I miss him a lot. He is in London for three days now. But he'll be back in a few days. He wanted to see how his father is recovering.
Due his trip to London, he can't come physically with me to the doctor, but I'm going to call him to see our son.
"Jo! Breakfast is ready!"
"I'm coming!" I walk on the stairs and I go to he kitchen while I rub circles on my bump, trying to make him move. "C'mon, love. Kick."
"What's up?"
"He didn't move today. I'm worried." I say and I gently poke my belly, wishing to feel a kick.
"You don't have to worry, Jo. I'm sure everything is fine. You will see him today."
"I know. I was supposed to have a 3D scan, but I opted for a 2D. I want to experience new things with Hero next to me."
"You really love him, don't you?"
"More than anything, Mia." I say and I feel like I'm going to cry. "I miss him so much." I whimper.
"Oh, c'mon! Don't start again..."
"The hormones..."
"He will be home soon."
"I know." I say and I start to eat.
"Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?"
"I am sure." I smile.
After having breakfast, I start to get ready for my appointment. After I'm done, I say goodbye to Mia and I leave to the doctor's office. As I arrive, I wait to be called inside. It's almost 10am In New York and 3pm in London, so I'm trying to call Hardin. He picks up after a few rings and allows the videocall.
"Hi love."
"Hi. What took you so long to pick up?"
"Someone is cranky today?" He smirks and I laugh.
"Are you cheating on me?"
"Never." He smiles. "Where are you?"
"At the doctor's office. I'm seeing my boy."
"Hey, he is our boy. Not only yours."
"You only helped with conceiving." I giggle. "I'm doing the hard work."
"Yeah, yeah." He laughs.
"Where are you? I feel like I know the background but I don't know from where."
"See yourself." He turn the camera and I see he is in my bedroom from home.
"What are you doing there?"
"We're having a late lunch together."
"So... All is good now?"
"Yeah. Everyone is pissed by the fact that we cand come back to London, but I'm sure they will move on."
"Yeah... Mia is leaving tomorrow."
"Already?"
"Yeah. She has to go to work from Monday. When are you coming back?"
"I'm going to look for flights back to New York."
"Good."
"Josephine Finnes?" I hear the nurse calling my name.
"That's me!" I get up.
"The doctor is ready to see you."
"Hero, I'm going to hang up. I'm getting in."
"Record the ultrasound, baby."
"Okay, bye bye!"
I end the call with Hero and I walk inside my doctor's office.
"Hello doctor Smith."
"Hello. Have a seat! It's only you?"
"Yeah, Hero had an emergency back home to London."
"Oh, alright. How were you in the last weeks? The baby is kicking?"
"Yes." I smile and I rub my bump. "He's kicking. At 24 weeks I felt the first kick."
"That's good. He will start moving a lot in the next weeks. Did you feel some pain in the last weeks?"
"No. Just back-pain."
"Okay. I'll warn you that you should expect some pain in the next weeks. Some small contractions, but they won't be as painful as the real contractions. If you feel it, call me and I'll tell you what to do depending on the pain level. But it should calm down if you take some meds. "
We talk for a little while about what happened in the last weeks and what I should expect as I'm entering the third trimester in a few weeks. Then, we move to the ultrasound. This is my favorite moment from my appointment. I'm always excited to see our baby boy.
I hop on the bed and I lift up my blouse and I lower my jeans. Doctor Smith squirts some gel on my abdomen and she starts the ultrasound. I quickly take my phone and I start to record the moment so I can show Hero.
"A little bit bigger than I expected, but all is good. This is his head." She points on the screen. "His little arms and body and legs. Healthy baby boy."
After doing the ultrasound, she hands me some flyers about some prenatal courses about kids and birth.
After my appointment, I stop at the grocery store to do some shopping, then I go back home. As I get inside, I let the groceries on the table and I go to find Mia.
"Mia! I'm back!"
"I'm in the guests room!" I walk in the guests room. She's packing.
"I'm sad that you are leaving."
"I know. Me too. But I have to be at work. Will you be okay until Hero is back?"
"Yeah. I talked with him and he will try to come home as soon as possible."
"That's good. How's the baby?"
"He's doing great. He's growing and he's healthy." I say as I rub my bump.
"That's great, Jo." She smiles.
"At what time do you have to be at the airport tomorrow?"
"Ten am."
"Alright. Then I'm going to make some lunch and I'm preparing something good for us."
"I'll join you as soon as I'm done with my bag."
I go to change my clothes, then I go in he kitchen and I start to make lunch for me and Mia. A few minutes later, Mia joins me and we cook together. One hour later, we eat in peace.
"And? Did you think about names for the baby?"
"No. We didn't talk about it yet. We still have time. As you saw, we didn't buy anything for the baby yet. But I think as soon as Hero will be back from London, we're going shopping."
"Great."
We spend the rest of the day watching movies. The next morning, I wake up with Mia and I take her to the airport. It was nice to spend some days with my bestie, I'm sad because she had to leave, but life moves on and from now on... I have to get read for welcoming our son in a few weeks.
