Chapter 18

Kol was sleeping comfortably when all of a sudden he heard the sound of his phone ringing. He grumpily moves his arm to the nightstand searching for his phone. Not having enough energy to look at the caller id, he just answered only to hear the voice of his brother.

"Kol..."

He took a deep breath before replying, "This better be important Nik."

"It is brother...I have something important to tell you..."

Kol's eyebrows furrow at the sound of his brother's worried tone. "Well it must be very troubling if you keep pausing as you speak," he said as he adjusted himself to sit up.

"Yeah, um...You remember the night that mother died, and I said that it was Mikael that did it?"

"Yeah, what about it?"

Klaus takes a deep breath before saying, "It wasn't Mikael that did it. It was me."

Kol's eyes widened in shock at hearing this, "I-what do you mean?"

"Well...It was when I had first discovered my werewolf side and she suppressed that part of me and then abandoned me...I felt betrayed and my emotions were running rampant so I killed her in a fit of rage."

Kol just sat there silent, not knowing what to say. Klaus became worried that his brother wasn't saying anything, "Kol...Are you still there?"

"Yes, I'm still here. I'll, um, I'll call you back." Kol said, quickly hanging up. Kol continues to sit on the bed with a hurt look on his face. Wanting to feel calmer, he lays back down behind Alex wrapping his arm around her waist and placing his head in her neck. Without even noticing, tears began to stream down his face, hitting Alex's neck, causing her to stir awake.

Alex groggily wakes up at the feeling of something wet on her neck, and turns to face Kol. Upon facing him and seeing the tears falling down his face, she becomes wide awake. "Kol, are you okay?" she asks.

He shakes his head still not speaking. Alex caresses his cheek while wiping away his tears, "What happened?"

Kol opened his mouth to try to speak, but he still struggled to say something.

"It's okay, take your time."

Kol takes a shuddering breath before saying, "My um...Nik just called me...he um...he told me that he's the one that killed our mother, not our father like he told us. And I get it you know, when we first turned into vampires, all our emotions were heightened, and with him also possessing the werewolf gene, his emotions were probably heightened tenfold. And I know that after our mother sealed his werewolf side and abandoned him that he was probably vengeful and that's what led to him killing her. But it's just a lot to process."

Alex nods her head in understanding, "I get it, that is a lot of traumatizing information to get...Did he sound like he regretted what he did?"

"..Yeah, he did. I was worried at first when he called because he sounded so shaken up, even before he told me what happened."

"Okay, well that's a good thing at least. Do you think that you'll forgive him?"

Kol sat there thinking about that option for a minute before replying, "Yes, I think I forgive him. Although I will be giving him hell about this for a while."

"I wouldn't expect anything else from you." Alex said, chuckling at his statement. "Are you feeling a bit better now that you talked about it?"

"Yes, darling. Thank you."

"Of course. Alright, so now that I'm awake, I'm going to call and check in on Rebekah. I'll be on the balcony if you need me. And if you're ready, and only if you're ready, call Klaus back and tell him how you feel about everything, okay."
