Chapter 31

Klaus leads Alex to the sitting area. Alex and Klaus each sit in the living room chairs across from each other, neither one making the first move. Klaus nervously looks around the room before clearing his throat as he says, "Alex...I'm sorry. I didn't mean for my fake death to cause you this much anguish, I guess I wasn't thinking."

"You're right. You weren't thinking. Why did you do it?"

"I was just trying to survive...While I was desiccated in the coffin, the Bennet witch came to me and did a spell to transfer my soul into Tyler's body in order to keep her friends and mother alive."

"Okay. So, why didn't you let us know that you were alive right when your soul was transferred?"

"For a more dramatic moment?" Klaus says, laughing slightly as he shrugs his shoulders.

Alex just looks at him with a deadpan look as she says, "Klaus."

Klaus holds his hands up in surrender as he replies, "Okay. Okay. In all honesty, I don't know."

"Klaus, do you trust your siblings?"

"Yes."

"Do you trust me?"

"Yes."

"Then why couldn't you tell us your plans?"

"I guess I'm just so used to doing things on my own, I've never really told anyone about my plans in the past, even my siblings...I'm sorry. I didn't want to make you cry or cause you any pain. I do trust you, how could I not after everything you have done for me. Hell, you've stuck by my side this long. You don't have to forgive me, but please consider it."

"The great Klaus Mikaelson groveling, I never thought I'd see the day." Alex says, laughing slightly before continuing. "Klaus, look, I forgive you, but I don't trust you."

"Thank you, Alex. I'll work on gaining your trust."

"Good. I've missed talking to you."

"I've missed talking to you as well. Y–" before Klaus could continue, a knock on his door interrupted his train of thought.

"Are you expecting someone else?" Alex asked.

"Not that I know of. This is the third time this evening. Excuse me, love." Klaus said as he made his way to the door. He opens it to reveal none other than Elena Gilbert. "Elena Gilbert. To what do I owe the pleasure."

"I need to talk to you. Can I come in?"

"Certainly. Right this way." Klaus says as he leads Elena into the sitting area. Upon entering Elena is shocked to see Alex there as well. "Ms. Russo? What are you doing here?"

"I was just talking with Klaus, but I think it's about time I go. Enjoy your talk." Alex says.

"Actually, could you stay? What I have to say kind of involves you as well." Elena asks. Alex's eyebrows raise in confusion as she nods her head, sitting back in the seat she previously occupied.

"So, Elena, why have you come?" Klaus asks.

"Well, I need your help. Kol has attacked Jeremy and Damon. Jeremy managed to escape, but he is keeping Damon hostage somewhere."

"A bit ironic, you coming to me for help. Weren't your friends just trying to bury me in a cement tomb?"

"This is your fault. You started this when you forced Jeremy to kill vampires."

"Sorry to interrupt, but Elena, isn't that what he is now: a vampire hunter? And not just any hunter, but one of the Five. The legendary group of vampire hunters whose sole purpose is to wipe the vampires off the face of the earth."
