Chapter 22

Alex turns to the Mikaelson siblings and says, "Okay, so...I'm going to head back to my place and give you guys some space."

Everyone immediately snaps their heads in her direction, looking at her with confusion. "No, you don't have to go."

"I know I don't have to, but I should. This is the first time you guys have seen your mother in over 1000 years. You guys should have some time with her, without me here." They all nod their heads reluctantly.

"Oh, and make sure that one of you guys calls Finn to tell him that your mother is back and alive." She says before making her way to the front door.

Once she's in the foyer, a hand pulls her back slightly. She turns around to see Kol standing there holding her hand. She smiles softly at him while caressing his cheek and says, "Kol, I'll see you tomorrow okay?" Kol nods his head in understanding before she leans up to kiss his cheek and leave the house.

Alex is woken out of her sleep by noises coming from her kitchen. She immediately becomes alert and quietly gets out of the bed and makes her way to the kitchen. Once there she quickly does a spell to freeze the culprit in place. After assuring that they're neutralized she walks closer only to see it's none other than Kol Mikaelson.

"Kol?!?! What are you doing here?" Alex asks as she unfreezes him.

"Making you breakfast."

"I see that, but shouldn't you be with your siblings and Esther?"

"Yeah, but it was getting kind of boring and weird. Plus, I didn't want you to be hungry."

"Thank you, Kol. That's very sweet, but I think I could've survived without your breakfast for a day."

"Oh really? So you're saying you don't want these warm and fresh blueberry pancakes and eggs? Hmm?"

Alex's stomach growls loudly causing her to look away sheepishly before she says, "...I didn't say that. But since you're here and cooking, I'll just eat it so it doesn't go to waste."

Kol chuckles and says, "Of course, darling. I'm just going to finish up. It should be ready in a couple of minutes."

"Okay, I'll be at the table." Alex says as she skips over to the table.

After a few minutes, Kol places the food in front of Alex and says, "Here you go, darling. Enjoy."

"Thank you Kol. This looks and smells delicious." Alex says before digging into the food. 

She devours it pretty fast, and once finished she sheepishly looks up at Kol and says, "Sorry about that. I guess I was hungrier than I thought."

"No need to apologize. I'm just glad you liked the food that much."

Alex smiles at him before taking her plate to the sink to wash the dishes. Once she finishes she goes back over to Kol and asks, "So, how does it feel to have your mother back?"

Kol takes a deep breath before replying, "It's..weird. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that she's back. But I've had 1000 years to mourn her, and now she's back...It's just different."

"I get it, but it has to feel good to have your family whole again...Well, mostly whole since your dad is dead. And besides it'll probably take some time before it feels real, since like you said it's been over 1000 years."

"Yeah, you're right. Thank you, darling."

"Of course."

"...I also wanted to ask you something." He took a deep breath before continuing, "My mother insists on having a ball as a way to welcome the Mikaelson's back to Mystic Falls. So, would you do me the honor of accompanying me?"
