The four of us began climbing the vent. We made it to the top. Brooklyn was the last one and as she tried getting up, she was pulled down. We heard the vent close and turned our heads around. The four of us ran back to the vent. We saw Brooklyn manage to grip the vent with her free arm while using the other one to grab the laptop. She looked down and saw what dragged her down. No, WHO dragged her down. "Well, what do we have here." Me and Yaz tried opening the vent. Kenji went to go see if we're about to get more company or not.
Brooklyn thought trying to help her would cause us to waste more time. She held the laptop over the vent and told us, "Go."
I responded, "What, NO!"
"We're NOT leaving you."
Kenji came back and told us, "We're about to get company. You better make this quick."
Brooklyn heard what he said, "See. Trying to get me out is going to waste time and get YOU guys caught. Just leave me and go. I'll be fine. Trust me."
"She's gonna be FINE, guys," Kenji tried telling us, "Just let her go. She'll be okay."
I didn't like it, but she had a point. Spending time trying to get her out is going to cause more attention from the OTHER two mercenaries and we're going to get caught trying to retrieve the laptop. I slowly took the laptop and looked down at Brooklyn. I watched as she began losing grip and scream as she fell down. After that, we quickly ran into the jungle so we don't get caught by the other two. "HEY YOU THREE! YOU RETURN THE LAPTOP, AND YOUR FRIEND IS GOING TO BE FINE. YOU HAVE UNTIL SUNRISE!"
We heard the announcement, and I started getting worried. I immediately turned to Kenji, "How can you be so careless?"
"She said she was going to be fine!"
"Yeah. Given OUR luck? NONE of us even KNOW who these other people are!"
Yaz broke it up, "Okay you both are in your argument, what do we do now?"
I began to think, "We go back and look for Darius, Ben, and Sammy, explain the news, and think of a plan to return the laptop. They should understand why we did...what we did. But explaining THAT is going to be the hard part."
"It's gonna be hard, but we'll get through it. They'll understand once we think of a plan. It'll be fine," Yaz reassured. With that, we began looking.
