A few weeks later, Horror's POV
I see a familiar portal open outside my front porch as I work on another carving. I grin, overjoyed at the sight.
"Farm! My dad's here!"I shout
"I'll be right over!"He yells from the carrot field.
I get up from my seat and wave to Dad as he steps through, shutting it behind him.
"HeY, HoRrOr! HoW iS iT gOiNg?"He asks, walking up the front steps.
"Great! Never better! Here, I'll get some wood and tools!"I say, running inside.
This is the first time that I've been able to arrange some time to spend time with Dad since the marriage, honeymoon, and settling into my new life with Farmer. Yet all of it has been amazing! I loved every second! And it's such a relaxing pace of life to shift to. And it will continue to be since all that I'm doing is carving and catching up. I give him a block of wood with some tools and we sit on the porch together, slicing away.
"ThAt'S gOoD tO hEaR."He says with a smile
"Though it does take some getting used to. Someone here likes sleeping in bear hugs."Farm says as he walks over
Dad waves to him with a grin.
"But you love the excuse to cuddle me in the morning!"I say
"That I do."He says, making Dad chuckle
Farm walks over and leans against the doorway, glancing at Dad.
"Did he learn this from Nightmare?"He asks
"HEY!"I snap, catching onto the comparison
They both chuckle.
"PeRhApS, bUt hE iS nOt aS cLiNgY. JuSt bE glaD tHaT hE lEts y0u g0...AnD dOeSn'T hAvE f0ur eXtRa aRmS tHaT mAy oR mAy nOt hAvE tHeIr oWn lEveLs oF cLiNgiNeSs."He says
I nod, knowing what he is referring to.
"How are things back at the castle?"I ask
"EvErYtHiNg iS gOiNg wELl. KiLleR hAs mAsTeREd tHe kItCh3n, w3 haVe 3 n3w kiTt3nS aNd tHe r3sT iS jUSt tHe uSuAl g0iNg sMoOtHlY. KiLleR se3kS t0 sH0w hiS skiLlS wh3N y0u c0m3 oVeR s0m3t1m3."He says
I smile at him, happy to hear that. Farm goes inside to grab a snack and rest for a bit. It's peaceful as Dad and I sit, slicing and carving the wood. It's so quiet that I could hear souls beating. Dad hums a tune, smiling a few feet away from me. I focus on my carving and my hearing focuses on Dad's soulbeat. It's always nice to listen to. Very unique with the glitching. But then I noticed something different. I hear an abnormal change in his beat, almost as if there is a second slower one trying to copy it.
"Dad...? Are you okay? Has anything changed recently for you?"I ask, glancing over at him.
I notice how tired he is as well, only getting more concerned.
"YeS, i aM oKaY. ThE cUrReNt cHaNgE f0r m3 iS tHaT wElL....NiGhTy aNd I aRe tRyInG tO gEt a k1d."He says
My mind goes to adoption or maybe they code one by mixing Mom's goop with Error's glitching or something? I dunno...
"Is he...?"I ask hesitantly
"JuSt g3ntLe wiTh 0ur s0uLs aNd iT cAn b3 tir1nG beFor3 y0u cAn tHiNk 0f iT wRoNg."He says
I sigh with relief and he glances at me.
"I wasn't sure what to think about that. I know how Mom is with you and how he can go too far with affection at times."I say
"TrUe."He says
Most of my mind is put at ease except for my paranoid instinctual part which often overthinks the slightest of changes. I shrug it off and continue carving. I get a stronger sense of an issue that I could hear with his soul but try to ignore it. I am sure that Dad has this handled.
We get into talking about what we've crafted and he shows pictures from the club meetings. I bring him inside, showing him my wooden crafts and that's when I broke under my own concerns. When his back is turned I decide to CHECK his soul to make sure that he is okay....only to find......a soul forming attached to Dad's soul with a thin silver string.
I stare at the small soul in shock, speechless. It is hardly beating, still developing and trying to copy Dad's beat. Then I dismiss it, shaking my head. I won't- no, I shouldn't mention anything now. It is too personal for Dad and CHECKing him after he said that he is fine certainly crosses a line. I don't want to pry into his business, especially with what happens between him and Mom.
Surely Dad of all people is aware of the soul and will share the news when he is ready.
Plus the new soul is hardly developed or stable enough to determine if it will last. It's weak so he may be waiting to see it survive for all I know. After a while of continuing to carve and even cooking some lunch, eating and chatting with Farm, Dad leaves once hugging me goodbye. I sigh, going to replant some tree saplings. But then I grin. Looks like I have some new crafts to learn, making him smile.
NO POV
Elsewhere, Probe's device lights up a bright yellow with a signal and he frowns. He really wished it wouldn't come to this.
