Before we start,  don't forget to read the author's note at the end.

This chapter is really emotional and I'm really sorry if anyone relates to this.

Lead the way?

School was getting tough, but it wasn't something I could not handle. I was grateful for the excuse to study and not think about all the problems that awaited me at home.

I think my friends were beginning to notice how cold I was becoming. Oba was casting me worried glances every now and then and I felt bad that she had to worry about me.

Today was a free day, because it was a teachers conference my school held every year. We had the liberty to go back to the hostel, or stay in class. I chose to stay in class and read a novel, because class was somewhat empty and quiet.

"Ed, you'll break your pen."
Rodney said softly, jolting me back to reality as he held my hand softly.

I dropped the pen.

"I'm sorry. I was just thinking." I said to him.

"Overthinking. You were overthinking." He replied.

Then taking a deep breath, he looked at me and said
"I'm worried about you, Edwin."

"Me? Why?" I asked.

"Are you fine?" He asked.

"Of course I am," I replied with an easy smile.

"Sure, sure. Now tell me the truth." He said again.

I sighed, dropping my book on my table.

"I'm not fine," I said to him.
"But there's really nothing I can do about it. Any of it."

"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked, smiling a bit.

I shook my head, smiling.
"Maybe later. Just not now.
Thank you though." I said to him.

"Always. That's what friends are for." He said in response.
"But I think you have to make the best of your senior year.
Your problems are at home, not in school. Turn it around for your good."

"So, what do you suggest i do?" I asked him

"This thing called Operation Senior Year. You have to make the best of your senior year. Join clubs, eat food, make friends, do exciting stuff, guts over fear kind of thing."

I gave him a deadpan look.
"That isn't me."

Rodney chuckled. "You'll never know if you never try.
Think about it,"

I nodded. "Sure, I will."
I stood and began to pack my bag.

"I'm going to the hostel. See you later?"

"See you later," came his response.

I left the class.
