Y/n
Overtime, Ominis became quite distant. I understood that Ominis did need time for himself, but 2 weeks seemed to be testing that understanding. Anne told me that I was probably just overthinking, and I was quick to believe so too. Perhaps I was. So, I decided to distract myself with my other friends, most especially Poppy.

Poppy introduced me the creatures, and I was so quickly enamoured and enthralled by these majestic beasts; I could spend the rest of my days enjoying their beauty.

"C'mon, I'll teach you how to ride the Hippogriff," Poppy Sweeting smiled.

I took up the offer, of course. I was so scared at first, but I quickly got used to the experience. Winds flew past my hair, allowing it to flow wildly amongst the air, while
I felt as though I was touching the skies. It was there that I saw Hogwarts in a completely different angle. Oh how beautiful the castle was from afar. I couldn't wait for Ominis to hear about my experience!

"It was so cool! I was soaring through the skies and ugh! Seventh year's just doing amazing for me," I gleamed happily at Ominis, who was writing his homework next to me.
I frowned as he didn't seem to pay any attention to what I had said. He held a focused look and continued writing on his paper.
"Omi, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Y/n, I really need to focus," he grumbled.

Hopeless, I gently nodded before leaving his side. I felt somewhat guilty despite not knowing what I've done. It had been so random. It was just the school holidays, then Ominis came back, quieter.

The next day was almost the same. Ominis was quiet, no word, no hug, no kiss. I was beginning to believe that he did not want me at all, leaving me almost frowning the entire day.

That exact afternoon, Sebastian sent me an owl, telling me to meet him at the Undercroft. I wondered what he'd want from me since he hasn't sent me an owl since fifth year. My voice echoed through the walls as I called out Sebastian's name.

"He called you here too?" Ominis' voice replied.

I looked up from the stoney floors, and saw Ominis standing there, waiting with his back leaned up against the wall.

"I suppose," I hummed.

I hesitated hugging him, not knowing if he felt comfortable or not, but I ended up hugging him upon hearing the loud metallic bang. We had been trapped. This was all one of Sebastian's antics.

"Seb you better get us out of here, or I will not hesitate to Crucio your dumb arse!" I exclaimed, finally letting go of Ominis.
"Not until you make up...or make out, either one," Sebastian's voice replied before I heard the entrance open and close.
"Unbelievable," I huffed as I sat down.

The Undercroft went silent, with Ominis refusing to talk, and I was faced with my own loneliness. Questions rummaged through my mind. Did he hate me? Did I do something wrong?

"Ominis, why don't you talk to me anymore?" I asked, politely and hesitantly.
"I don't know..." he trailed off, sighing. I could see his hand reach out for me, but quickly returned back to it's original position.
"You know that I don't really push you to talk to me about things, but I'm worried for you. The mind can be destructive on its own," I said empathetically.

With that, Ominis began to sniffle and cry. His hands covered his soft face, which turned red from his sadness. I've only ever seen Ominis cry once. That was when he got physically hurt from tripping when we were kids. Ominis was never one to cry in public, and especially not about his problems.

"Oh my love, what is wrong?" I asked, pulling his head down to my lap.
"My family, they're horrible people. Horrible! Horrible!" He exclaimed, sobbing even more. "I watched my brother's wife get murdered, only because she couldn't provide and heir. I was there!" He sobbed.

I gently wiped away his tears with the stroke of my thumb, and pushing his precious blonde hair off his gentle face. He continued to cry as he told me what had happened. I, of course, couldn't help but feel bad. Fear was the last thing I felt, but Ominis worried that I became fearful of his own family.

"I am ashamed. I'm scared! I don't want the same fate for you," Ominis cried.

I let out a soft giggle before leaning in to kiss his cheek, trailing down to his neck. Comforting and soft kisses, that eased down Ominis' breathing.

"Ominis, your family may have done such awful things, but you are not your family. You've proven that for 7 years, here at Hogwarts. You are a Gaunt with a pure heart. That is why I'd choose you over and over again, even in different lives, I'd choose you," I smiled at him.
"You aren't scared of me?" Ominis asked.
"Of course not! I love you and I swear by it!" I giggled.

Ominis quickly sat up to wipe his tears, before pressing his lips passionately on mine. Some were long passionate kisses, and some were soft and short kisses.

"I love you ever so much," he whispered upon pulling away. "I'm deeply sorry for pushing you away," he frowned.
"It's alright, sometimes you just need time to let everything settle," I shrugged.

It was nearing the end of my last class, and I was quite obviously ready to fall asleep. The professor, I could swear, was falling asleep as he taught, as his voice went up and down like a lullaby.

All of the sudden, a soft sound of fluttering was heard. I cocked my head up to see where the sound was coming from, only to see a paper butterfly, flying towards me gracefully. The paper unfolded when it landed on my desk, and I could see quite clearly that it was Ominis' handwriting.

My dearest Y/n,

I wanted to thank you very much for always being by my side, and reminding me that I am not alone. I truly love you so, and I cannot wait for the day that I marry you.

Poppy Sweeting had mentioned your new amusement with magical beasts, and I wanted to hear more about your adventures. Meet me by the lake after class.
Yours,
Ominis Gaunt

I looked up from the letter and found Ominis standing just outside. As if he felt my stare, he gave me a soft wink before running off somewhere in the hallway. I couldn't help but feel excited for after class.

When the bell finally rang, I rushed to the lakeside, where I found Ominis and a few beasts surrounding him. A picnic mat and basket were set up.

"Oh my, Omi!" I smiled as I walked up to hug him.
"Do you like it?" He asked.
"I love it!" I smiled.

That afternoon, I told Ominis about my experience with the Hippogriffs, talked to him about the other creatures as they walked past us. One important one was the Qilin, a rare beast that I've only every read about. I was surprised that Ominis managed to find one.

"A qilin! Ominis!" I gasped as it curiously walked towards us.
"The purest creature, I heard," Ominis chuckled.

After watching it for a bit, what shocked me was the fact that it bowed in front of Ominis, then later me.

"It only bows to the ones who have the purest heart," I gasped. "It bowed to you," I added.
"Me? But my family...they're dark wizards. How could I..." Ominis replied.
"As I said, you are not your family," I sighed, leaning on his shoulder. "You have the kindest soul,"
"You flatter me darling," Ominis chuckled before kissing my cheek. "I love you," he grinned.
"I love you too," I blushed as we watched the sun disappear behind the hills.
