Brazilian Sunset

Jasper's pov

"Your uncle is in jail" I informed Eira, as soon as I got the email from my lawyer that they were finally able to get hold of her uncle and send him to jail.

Eira, turned around from her seat ahead of me in airplane and stared at me with disbelief but most importantly with relief. We were finally going to Brazil. Though I was skeptical about this trip, Eira was hopeful about it.

"Are you sure"

"Yes," I gave her my phone to show the email I must have had received at the time of boarding and got to check now. A wave of relief washed over Eira's face as she read the email, her eyes welling up with tears.

I watched her silently, a mixture of emotions swirling within me. Joy for her, of course, that her tormentor was finally behind bars. But also a tinge of sadness, for the years of fear and pain she had endured.

Eira turned back to me, her eyes shining with gratitude. "Thank you, Jasper," she said, her voice choked with emotion. "I don't know what I would have done without you."

I smiled back at her, feeling a warm glow in my chest. "You're welcome, Eira," I replied. "I'm glad I could help."

The rest of the trip we couldn't speak a lot because we weren't sitting together but once we landed in Sao Paulo. Amara had arranged for a car towards Ubatuba as well.

As we drove out of São Paulo, the city's hustle and bustle gave way to lush greenery and rolling hills. The countryside was dotted with small towns and villages, each with its own unique charm.

After a few hours, we arrived in Ubatuba, a coastal town known for its beautiful beaches and laid-back atmosphere. We had a villa booked for us. Our villa was nestled on a hillside overlooking the ocean, and it was a picture of paradise.

I could tell that Eira was already feeling a sense of peace and tranquility, and honestly even I felt so relaxed. Maybe coming over wasn't that bad of an idea. We were just settling in when Eira's phone rang and all the color drained from her face.

"Dad" she said to the person on other side. I watched as Eira's face paled, her eyes wide with fear. He must have come to know about his brother's arrest. I don't know much about them and their family dynamics but Eira doesn't talk a lot about them.

"But, dad-" she tried to speak but he cut her off. His harsh voice reached me as well, though I couldn't make out what he was saying. I have had enough of this bullshit. I snatched Eira's mobile phone, cut the call and turned it off.

"This should remain off for the rest of our trip"

"But I want to take pictures"

"You can use my mobile phone" reluctantly she gave her phone to me which I dropped in drawer of vanity table and locked it.

Eira looked at me with a mix of surprise and gratitude. I could tell she appreciated my intervention, even if she didn't say it outright.

"Thank you, Jasper," she said softly. "For standing up for me."

"C'mon let us go out for a walk" I didn't want to spend thinking about Eira and her past or my past whatsoever.

Eira and I stepped out of the villa, the warm breeze caressing our faces. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the ocean. The waves crashed against the shore, creating a soothing rhythm.

"I am so glad we came" Eira voiced her thoughts staring at the setting sun. The golden hour looked magnificent from the vast shore.

The evening sun painted the sky in hues of orange and pink, casting a serene ambiance over the beach. We strolled in silence, letting the tranquility of the moment envelop us.

"It looks like our best decision so far" I replied looking around the small town. The waves of ocean carried away all the wounds of past and left fresh slate in its wake and I am going to get full advantage of it.

"I am hungry, let us go back" Eira finally stopped talking and acknowledged her growling stomach.

As Eira and I walked back to the villa, I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. The day had been perfect, and I was glad that I had been able to help Eira escape the clutches of her past.

"What do you want to eat?" I picked up my mobile phone to order dinner for both of us.

"I don't know, some local dish" I ordered some local food for us, and we sat down on the balcony to enjoy the view of the ocean while we waited for our food.

The sky was ablaze with stars, and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore was a soothing lullaby. We were sitting on patio and salty air caressed our bodies.

"Want to play scrabble?"

"You brought scrabble here as well?" I was surprised. I know Eira is good with words but I never knew she would be obsessed with the game.

"Yup," she stood up and disappeared into house. While she was bringing game, our food arrived and I received it from door. We both returned to patio at the same time. Her with game and I with food.

"We'll eat and then play" she nodded dropping the game on table and then helped me dish out of food.

"Okay, let us play twenty questions while eating" Eira chirped as soon as first bite of food made it past her throat.

"So, I'll ask the first question. What is your favorite movie?"

I chuckled, taking a bite of my own food. "The Lord of the Rings trilogy," I replied.

Eira's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? I didn't expect that from you."

"What did you expect from me?" I asked, intrigued by her reaction.

"I don't know," she said, her voice trailing off. "Something more action-packed, maybe."

I shrugged. "I like a good fantasy story as much as the next guy. What is your favorite movie?"

Eira smiled. "Mine is The Princess Bride. It's always been my favorite movie since I was a kid." I stared at the girl in front of me. How had she become the light in my dark world.

"Okay, mountains or beaches?"

"Mountains" I replied.

"Careful Jasper Sinclair, we are at beach what if we piss it off" I laughed at her joke. Normally I wouldn't have laughed like this at such a small joke but her presence made me do things I would never do normally.

"Night in or night out"

"Night in" I never imagined her to be the kind of person who like nights in. Looking at her you would think that she loves huge crowds and loud places. I was starting to realize that there was so much more to her than what met the eye.

"Okay, your turn," Eira said, sipping on her drink. "What's your biggest fear?"

I hesitated for a moment, looking out at the vast expanse of the ocean. "Losing the people I care about," I finally admitted, realizing that it was a fear rooted in my past, in the losses I had experienced.

Eira's expression softened, and she reached out to place a comforting hand on mine. "I can understand that, Jasper. It's a universal fear, I guess."

"Okay, we aren't here for serious talks. Tell me your worst childhood memory" I asked diverting the conversation from my fears. It was so difficult facing them heads on.

"My childhood was pretty boring, there are not much memories let alone sad or happy ones" I can see it in her eyes that she didn't want to answer the question so I stayed quiet. We continued to eat our dinner until all that was left was empty take out boxes.

"Now we'll play scrabble"
