-A Desperate Plea-
Jasper's pov
A scream took my breath away. After a mind blowing sex in morning and some very difficult conversation, Eira and I had decided to go into town.
But what is right now in front of me made my blood turn into ice in my veins.
No. . .
No. . .
No. . .
Whatever it is in front of me is not true. It can't be.
This better be some kind of sick joke. A prank. Nature can't do the same thing to me over and over again. I can't lose her. Not like this. My stomach twisted in agony.
"Eira" I whispered to the unconscious Eira laying on the road in front of a car. People had started to gather all around us, but all the voices drowned and all that was left was a long beep.
"Eira" I dropped on knees beside her.
Panic clawed at my throat, icy and sharp. I couldn't breathe. Not properly. Not with her lying there so still, so pale, against the harsh asphalt.
"Eira," I rasped again, my voice barely audible over the roaring in my ears. My hand, trembling violently, reached out to cup her cheek. It was cool, devoid of the warmth that had lingered there just moments ago. My fingers brushed against something sticky, warm. My stomach lurched. Blood.
She was with me shopping jewelry for herself. She wanted to collect sovereigns from her trip. She was alive and warm and with me a moment ago and now she laid like a dead person.
Please God.
A choked sob escaped me, raw and desperate. This couldn't be happening. Not again. The world seemed to tilt on its axis, blurring the edges of the scene before me. But through the haze, I registered the concerned faces hovering over us. One, older woman knelt beside me, her voice a soothing murmur against the maddening beep.
"There you go, dear. Stay calm. Help is on the way."
Calm? How could I be calm with the love of my life bleeding out on the pavement in front of me? The woman's words seemed to come from a vast distance, muffled and distorted. My gaze darted frantically between Eira's still form and the approaching wail of sirens, each agonizing second stretching into eternity.
"Don't you dare leave me, Eira," I whispered, the words thick with desperation. "Don't you dare..."
Someone slipped their hand between my hand and her body, under her head and tried to lift her off my lap. But I pulled her closer. "Stop this, don't you dare take her away from me"
"She needs urgent help, please let us take her to hospital" man's voice urged me a little towards reality. Eira needs urgent help.
"I'll take her" I nodded to myself and stood up, picking her in my arms and turned around searching for any ambulance. But there was nothing.
"I'll give you lift to hospital" the same man offered his help.
Relief flooded me, momentarily eclipsing the terror. "Yes, please," I croaked, desperation lacing my voice. The world swam as I cradled Eira closer, the metallic tang of blood heavy in the air. Her head lolled against my chest, her once vibrant hair now limp and lifeless.
The man, a stranger with kind eyes and a worried frown, ushered me towards his car. Every jostle, every bump in the road sent a fresh wave of panic crashing through me. Her breaths, if they were even there, were shallow and erratic. My hand, slick with sweat and blood, tightened around her.
