One afternoon, the first week in September, Rory found herself sitting in her house with Melissa, Carrie, and Alyssa. They were trying to plan a night out. The kids were all upstairs.
"We could just go to a bar" Carrie said
"Pregnant" Melissa said and pointed at Rory
"We can still go to a bar, I just won't drink" Rory said. If her friends all wanted to go to a bar, then she would go. She didn't mind not being able to drink.
"It's not as fun that way" Alyssa said "Although, it is fun to go to bars when you're pregnant and drink cranberry juice in a wine glass. The looks on people's faces are hilarious"
"That's psychotic" Carrie said
"Whatever" Alyssa shrugged
"Mommy" Millie said as she came down the stairs
"Yes love"
"How many more days until baby sister is here?" Millie asked
Rory did some quick math "42" Rory said. She was probably wrong. She was 34 weeks pregnant at this point, which should mean that the baby would be born in 42 days, give or take. But Millie was born at 38 weeks and 3 days and Rory had a feeling that this baby was gonna come a little early to.
"Ok" Millie said and went back upstairs
"Every day" Rory said "multiple times"
"That she asks that?" Melissa asks
"Yeah, but she's weird about it" Rory said "she walks into whatever room I'm in, goes 'mommy, when is baby sister getting here?', waits for me to answer, and then just walks out of the room"
"Kids are weird" Alyssa said "yesterday Andrew told me that I look the way that cinnamon smells. Well, actually he said 'cinmanim', but he meant cinnamon"
"What does that even mean?" Carrie asked
"No idea, but I took it as a compliment"
Later that evening, Rory was making dinner for Millie when Logan got home.
"Daddy's home!" Millie said when she heard the door open. She ran out of the room and a moment later Logan and Millie both walked into the kitchen.
"Hi" He kissed Rory "how's baby doing?" He put his hand on her belly
"She's trying to break my ribs" Rory said. She was definitely starting to get tired of being pregnant.
"Just a little longer"
"Yeah, you say that but you're not the one who's pregnant"
"Fair enough" he said "What'd you guys do today?"
Rory had started maternity leave that week, and Millie started preschool the next week, so Rory decided that since she wasn't working anyway, Millie would stay home with her until preschool started.
"We went to see the monkeys!" Millie told him, excitedly. Millie was obsessed with monkeys. She even had a stuffed monkey named banana that she took everywhere. So that day Rory took her to the zoo to see the monkeys.
"Monkeys are fun" Logan said just as Rory dropped the tray she was taking out of the oven.
"Ow!" She inhaled sharply "damn it!"
"Did you just burn yourself?" Logan asked
"Yeah" Rory groaned. She turned on the sink and put her hand under the running water.
"Mama, are you ok?" Millie asked
"I'm fine, baby"
"You got hurt"
