Part 19

A couple of weekends later, Rory and Logan took the girls to Stars Hollow.

"You know what the best part of going to Stars Hollow for the weekend is?" Amelia asked as they walked out of the terminal.

"What?" Logan asked

"We get to miss school on Friday" she said. She did love school, but at the same time, what kid didn't love getting to miss a day of school? They always flew on Thursday night.

"That's the best part?" Rory asked with a laugh.

"Ok, maybe it's not the best part" Amelia said. "But it's still fun"

Just then Avery saw Lorelai just a few feet away. "Nana!" She ran to Lorelai.

"Hi!" Lorelai said and picked her up. She hugged Abigail and Amelia before hugging Rory. "Did you guys have a good f-" mid-sentence she noticed the girls' ears. Her eyes went from the girls, to Rory, back to the girls, and then back to Rory. "You got their ears pierced?"

"I did" Rory said

That was when Lorelai noticed Rory's ears. "You got your ears pierced?!" She gasped

"We convinced her to" Amelia said

"Did you get your ears pierced?" Lorelai asked and moved Avery's hair to the side so she could see her ears.

Avery shook her head.

"At least one of them needs to stay little" Logan said.

"Dad doesn't like us growing up" Amelia said

"Earrings don't necessarily mean growing up, you know" Lorelai said. "I got Rory's ears pierced when she was a year old"

"Really?" Abigail asked

"Yeah" Rory said

"Then why did I have to wait 9 years?"  Amelia asked

"You asked that as if I didn't take you as soon as you asked"

"Fair enough"

Rory and Lane were sitting on Lane's front porch. Zach, Logan, and all the kids were inside.

"I can't believe you did that" Lane said. "You have 4 holes in your head. I'm 33 years old, but if I did that my mother would kill me"

"I think there are other things I've done that your mother would've killed you for before she killed you for piercing your ears" Rory said.

"You mean being unmarried with 3 kids?" Lane asked. Mrs. Kim definitely judged Rory for that, and if she did try to hide it, she did a bad job. Not that it really bothered Rory.

"Yeah" Rory laughed "And I wasn't planning on doing it. I took Abigail and Amelia to get theirs done, and then the lady was all like 'are we doing yours? Maybe a second piercing?' And the girls got really excited and they convinced me to do it"

"I'm obsessed with your daughters" Lane said. "Huh" she chuckled wryly. "How crazy is that?"

"What?"

"Daughters" Lane said. "It feels like yesterday that we were the kids, and now we have 5 between the two of us. It's crazy."

"I guess it is kinda crazy"

That evening found them at the Gilmore house.

"Did you know that a quarter of all your bones are in your foot?" Amelia asked

"So I guess fifth grade is going well" Luke chuckled

"Is that true?" Richard asked

"Mhmm" Amelia nodded. "And the average brain weighs about 3 pounds, but a newborn baby's brain only weighs about 3/4 of a pound"
