The dining hall was surprisingly large and packed. Each table was shoulder to shoulder with men and very few women which was confusing since my previous base was loaded with women. I took a moment to look around to spot any familiar faces as my eyes settled on Midas who in turn saw me and then avoided eye contact. I smirked to myself under my balaclava as I stared him down when Merlin approached me out of nowhere.
"Oi, go get some chow and come back here." He said.
"I'm alright, not very hungry." I shook my head.
"Alright then, let's go meet the men." He replied in surprise ushering me towards a table on the far side of the cafeteria. The whole table consisted of abnormally large men all dressed in black tactical gear while the rest of the room bore standard camouflage. They were deep in conversation until I approached the table with Merlin making them all stop talking instantly.
"Men, this is Ana-" He started but I cut him off
"Wendigo." I said sternly.
A few of the men raised an eyebrow most likely shocked I interrupted a superior. One man's reaction.. or lack there of.. peaked my interest as he was looking at me but I could not see his face. He too wore a balaclava but paired it with all black sunglasses.. indoors.
"My apologies. Men, this is Wendigo. She is our new sergeant. I'd be weary of this one, she got into a bit of a scuffle with Midas earlier." He chuckled laying a hand on my shoulder. It took everything in me not to force his hand off of me. People touching me doesn't necessarily bother me but Merlin was doing it too much.
"Have a seat." One of the men said to me. I smirked. I knew that accent anywhere.
"Spasibo." I said to him as I took a seat on the bench leaving Merlin to stand. The Russian brute looked shocked at my reply.
"Spetsnaz?!" He asked almost giddy.
"Nyet! Former ACR Army of Czech Republic. That is until I was recruited here." I said with a chuckle.
"You and I will get along! Aha!" He said banging his fist on the table. The other men seemed intrigued to meet me, except expressionless sunglasses at the end of the table. I wanted to see what was behind those sunglasses but I enjoyed the mystery of not seeing his face.
"Phantom, you haven't said a word, care to chime in, eh?" Merlin said raising his chin using it to point towards Phantom.
"Welcome to the team." His voice was gruff but his accent screamed British intelligence. I nodded in thanks.
"Tomorrow you'll get to meet your trainee team. Make sure ya' keep 'em in line." Merlin said putting his hand on my shoulder yet again.
