"Don't you dare close those eyes." Phantom's stern voice caused my body to jerk awake.
"I'm exhausted." I said softly.
"Well unfortunately, you have to stay awake for at least another five hours. You hit your head hard, it's best to make sure there isn't any other issues." He explained.
"Well I can stay awake by myself Phantom, you don't need to coddle me." I groaned getting up, my throat was starting to become sore. I put my hand up to my throat, without even looking in the mirror I could tell there are bruises forming from where Midas' hands are.
"You need to take this for the pain and put this on the back of your head." He said handing me a water bottle and an abnormally small white pill. He waited till I downed the pill before tossing an ice pack at me.
"I know I don't have to be here but it is my fault you got injured. Now instead of trying to see me off, why don't you tell me about you." He sat back sprawling himself against my loveseat.
"What do you want to know Phantom, we weren't allowed to talk about our pasts with each other at my last base." I say sitting up putting the ice pack on the back of my head and against the wall trapping it there.
"Well this isn't your last base is it Ana? This team is tightly knit and I'm just trying to get to know what kind of sergeant I'm going to have." He took off his helmet. He had a skull cap underneath hiding his hair. I was genuinely curious as to what he truly looked like.
"Don't you have my file lieutenant? You know everything worth knowing about me right down to how many confirmed kills I have to what time I shower." I raised my voice. I didn't mean for it to come across as disrespectful but I was getting annoyed. I saw his lips move under his mask, almost as if he was smirking.
"Well.. actually.. I don't know what time you shower.. Anastasia." He said as if he was testing me.
"That's not my name anymore, lieutenant." I responded in a low voice that was starting to sound hateful. I despised my name. I would only go by my callsign I had given myself. Honestly as far as I knew Anastasia Marek was deceased.
"Oh you earned Wendigo, eh? You think because you've got a cute little nickname you've actually earned it?" He was taunting me. My face was becoming hot with rage. He was speaking to me recklessly and as if he didn't know anything about me. I knew how people talked in military bases, words get spread like wildfire.
"Respectfully, get the fuck out Grayson." His real name rolled off my tongue in rage and I didn't care. He was trying to get a rise out of me and it was working.
"You know I can't do that." He sat up grunting.
"I don't give a fuck what you can and can't do. Get. The. Fuck. Out." If I was an animal I would have been rabid. I was mean, pissed off, and wanted him gone.
"I'll sort you out in the morning.. soldier." He said angrily getting up and slamming the door. Now I had to face staying awake alone.
