The pain was fading. My brain felt rewired to fear every little sound. Every little movement. Panic was bubbling in my stomach just waiting for the smallest thing to set me off.
I reached to touch my own face when my hand was gently caught by Kayo.
"No, no. You have stitches on your face baby. Don't touch them." He said. His tone was tender and full of worry.
"I..." I started to say. My mind was foggy. I felt delirious.
"What is it?" He asks letting go of my hand and continuing to firmly grasp my other one.
"I missed you." I said as tears flowed down my cheeks.
"Oh schatz." He sighed kissing my hand. I missed the feeling of his warm lips against my skin.
"I hate to interrupt. I know you said not now Kayo but this isn't something that should wait." Jonesy said keeping eye contact with him.
"What?" I croaked.
"Jonesy." Kayo clenched his jaw in anger, his tone a clear warning sign.
"Ana. You miscarried." Jonesy looked at me. The sadness in his eyes made his delivery even worse.
"W..what?" Tears burned at my waterline. Filling up the dam just as it was about to break.
"I'm sorry." Jonesy said. He discarded his gloves and made a swift exit.
Kayo squeezed my hand again trying to get me to focus on his. My vision was so embossed with my own tears I couldn't see anything.
"Let it out, Ana." Kayo sighed. That was all I needed to hear. The dam was broken. Streams poured down my face as my chest heaved. I sobbed so violently my body shook against the bed. I was so riddled with pain medicine my wounds couldn't feel the pressure I was putting on them.
I heard whispers on the other side of the room over my sobs. I froze and looked at Kayo.
"You two are too loud." He said.
Two dark figures stepped closer to the bed. I dug my nails into Kayo's hand in panic.
"It's alright." He whispered.
"I'm glad you're alive!" The voice becoming familiar.
"Wolf?" I asked.
He chuckled stepping into the light.
"Hi sweets!" He exclaimed.
I offered him a half smile, all I could muster. My sight was becoming hazy and I was slowly getting drowsy.
"Phantom?" I looked at the still hidden figure.
"The one and only. Get some rest Ana." He grumbled before turning away and walking out of the room. He never let me see him completely. Always hiding. Always lurking.
