Her beautiful blue eyes fluttered as they cracked open. She wiggled against the restraints gently but quickly started to panic again.
"Ana, baby. It's me. You're safe." I squeezed her hand and her overgrown nails left deep half circles in my palm.
Her chest rose and fell rapidly as the panic set in more. I reached over with my other hand softly brushing over her forehead. Her eyes finally locked onto mine. Tears flooded her face as she tried to reach out to me. She pulled harder and harder against the restraints trying to get to me.
"Hold on okay? Viktor call Jonesy." I said sternly refusing to break contact with her.
I heard the click of the button on the wall and only minutes later the door sprung open.
"Ah! About time missy." Jonesy exclaimed.
He slipped on a pair of latex gloves and grabbed a small flashlight.
"Has she said anything?" Jonesy asked looking at me.
I shook my head. Ana kept looking around the room but always ended on locking eyes with me. The panic in her chest was still present with her escalated breathing.
"Ana. Remember me?" Jonesy questioned walking to the other side of her bed.
"..Yes." A very hoarse croak slipped out of her mouth.
"Perfect. I'm not going to hurt you, okay. I just need to double check something in your eyes." He tells her and reaches down to her face. He flicked on the flashlight, shining it right into each eye. Her face winced and I continuously pressed my lips to the back of her hand trying to keep her calm.
"Your reflexes look good. No signs of a major concussion. You're going to be in bed rest for a while. Do you understand?" He asked shutting off the flashlight. All she could offer was a blank stare.
"Ana, schatz. Do you understand?" I asked again for Jonesy, gaining her attention. Tears started streaming down her face as her chest held in her sobs.
"It.. hurts." She cried.
"I can fix that. Give me just a moment." Jonesy said disappearing behind a room divider. He comes back with a tiny vial and a syringe.
"I'm going to give you some morphine." He explains as he extracts the clear liquid from the vial then carefully inserts it into her arm.
"Can we take her out of these now? She seems calm enough." I said pointing to the cuffs around Ana's wrists.
"Yes. However if she goes manic again she is getting sedated." Jonesy explains.
I nod and release Ana's wrist on my side of the bed nearly the same time as Jonesy does his side. She immediately tried to sit up but cries out in pain from the wounds scattered across her body.
"Whoa whoa whoa. Ana you're going to rip your stitches!" Jonesy let out a defeated sigh. Her body was covered in countless wounds and quite possibly hundreds of stitches holding her together.
I wanted to weep at sight of her. Her feisty spirit was broken down to damsel in distress. I still kept my grip on her hand as she softly flexed her fingers against my palm.
"Ana. There is something you need to know." Jonesy piped up. My eyes widened. I knew exactly where he was going with this.
"Jonesy. She just woke up and is on strong pharmaceuticals. I don't think now is the best choice of time." I spat grinding my teeth together.
I couldn't risk her having another outburst or worse.. checking out completely with the possibility of no return.
