"Ah! Phantom sir! You're back!" Jonesy said. "What's up? What brings you to med bay?" He asked before I could speak.
"Well mister Phantom had an episode and busted his hand." Wolf cut in.
"I see. Sit down and let's have a look." Jonesy motioned for me to sit on the exam bed as he slipped on latex gloves. My skin screamed in agony as he pulled off my bloody glove. Jonesy whistled in shock seeing the deep gouges on my knuckles.
"What the hell did you do?" He asked taking an in depth look at my wounds.
"He punched plane." Wolf chuckled a bit.
Silence filled the air for a brief moment before Jonesy had to get peroxide to pour over my hand.
"You want something to bite on? It's gonna sting." He said holding the bottle half-cocked above my hand ready to go. I shook my head in response and he doused my lacerations thoroughly.
"OH FUCK OFF JONESY!" I screamed. Wolf cracked a smile while I breathed through my mouth in pain.
"Oh c'mon big man, even Ana took the peroxide like a champ." Jonesy laughed. "Speaking of Ana, where is she? I have news for her." He added.
I couldn't get words out. Anger, guilt, and sadness washed over me just hearing her name.
"Ana.. didn't come back." Wolf said.
"Oh my.. is she..?" Jonesy didn't want to finish his sentence.
"To our knowledge she is not. She was taken by hostiles and we had no choice but to fall back." Wolf sighed.
"Jesus Christ.." Jonesy said.
"We'll get her back." I finally piped up. Every word I said felt like I was swallowing battery acid.
"Anastasia is strong, Jonesy. I can't imagine what they are doing to her but she will survive." Wolf said and his words were trying to reassure us both. Possibly even himself.
"Well Viktor, it's actually not her I'm worried about surviving the enemy." Jonesy hesitated.
"What do you mean by that Jonesy?" I asked.
"Look I'm a medical professional there's laws and shit protecting that—" He said before I cut him off.
"Jonesy, I outrank you here heavily. I am your superior and I am giving you orders to tell me what you mean by that." I said growing angry.
"Ana's pregnant." He sighed.
My mind went blank and the guilt waved over me more than any other emotion I've felt today. Jonesy went back to stitching up my hand and the room was in complete silence.
Everything was making sense. Ana puking in the desert and not thinking clearly. The puzzle pieces finally aligned themselves.
Jonesy finished stitching me up and wrapped my hand in cloth.
"You know the drill, don't bust open your stitches." He said pulling off the latex gloves and tossing them aside.
All I could do was nod. I stood up and walked with Wolf out of medical bay.
"Sir, we have to tell Kayo." Wolf whispered.
"That is the last thing we are going to do here. You tell absolutely no one." I said sternly and walked away from him towards my own living quarters.
