I watched Kayo closely taking a seat in the same flimsy metal chair that was clearly stressed from my size. He clutched her restrained hand, kissing it behind his cloth mask.
You wish that was you, getting to love on her. Selfish.
I knew how much he meant to her. I knew how much she meant to him. However ever since I spent that night in the gym with her, getting to hold her, calm her.. I had been thinking of her greedily.
"Why is she restrained?" Kayo asked, his voice was low and strained.
"She tried to attack both of us. It's only until she's cognitively aware of her surroundings." I say, tiredness looming over me.
"She didn't deserve this." He sighs, lifting his helmet and mask then tossing it to the floor.
He had never shown his face to us. Jokes had been tossed around if he was a sore sight but he clearly wasn't. The light gleamed off his scars confirming my suspicions as to why he even wore that piece of cloth to begin with.
He remained on his knees at her bed side and he still towered over her. He continually pressed his lips against the back of her hand as if trying to wake her up with his romantic gestures.
"How long until she's awake?" He croaked. His voice was becoming hoarse by the minute and undoubtedly full of emotion he was trying to choke back.
"I gave her a very heavy sedative. I don't need her freaking out on me while I clean and stitch these wounds Kayo." Jonesy finally spoke. He sounded just as upset as Kayo.
Kayo could only sigh. There was no argument from him. He knew Jonesy was doing what he had to do even if he wishes the opposite.
"Kayo.. there is something you should know." Jonesy started, clearing his throat trying to find a way to deliver the hard news.
"Spit it out." He hissed. I stood up immediately hearing him starting with his temper again. I silently crept up behind him fully expecting him to start throwing shit everywhere. Or even beating Jonesy within an inch of his life.
"Um.. Ana.." Jonesy sighed. He didn't want to tell him. I could see through his eyes and frowned mouth he wanted to avoid this altogether.
"I swear to fucking god Jonesy. Spit. It. Out." He demanded trying to rise to his feet to assert dominance. I placed a firm hand on his shoulder pushing him back to the ground. He didn't even attempt to look at me as his angry gaze was locked on Jonesy.
"Ana was pregnant." Jonesy blurted out, blowing out air from his mouth as if a massive weight had been lifted off his chest.
"What the fuck do you mean.. was?" He was seething. His hand that was gripping the rail to Ana's bed had gone completely white-knuckled.
"S..she lost the baby during what she.. endured." Jonesy stuttered. Kayo was a terrifying and intimidating man but had never been this aggressive with any part of the team. He surely had Jonesy shaking like a leaf.
"If you need a minute, I don't want you in here throwing shit around Kayo." I said to him, firming the grip on his shoulder. He didn't say another word. He rose to his feet, pushing against my hold on him, and stormed out of the room. The door slammed behind him and loud bangs echoed in the hallway.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" Kayo roared pounding his fist into the wall over and over.
I opened the door just in time to see him falling to his knees, fully sobbing.
Seeing a lethal soldier weep like this was enough to even make me shed a tear. And I did.
