I had fallen asleep. The one major thing I was told not to do, I did. I didn't know how long I was out but I woke up to rapid knocking on my door. I was covered in sweat head to toe. I tried to sit up but I was so disoriented I just fell backwards. A tall figure busted through my door, so tall it seemed he had to bend under the doorway.
"Get up." His voice seemed to growl at me.
I didn't budge. I had no idea who this man was. I kept thinking we were under attack but his voice seemed too out of place for that.
"I will not tell you again. Get. Up." He said in a lighter tone. I was dizzy. I was not going to move. It was almost as if he read my mind because he rushed me while I tried to get up off the bed to get ready to defend myself. It wasn't long before he had me by the back of the neck and shoved my face into the bed. He was huge. Bigger than Phantom and possibly, quite scarier. The dim lights reflected off of what covered his face. It was a sheet of cloth with the eye holes cut out. His eyes looked as if they were solid black. I tried to get out a muffled scream as he zip tied my hands behind my back. I tried to fight him off but he put so much pressure on my spine I thought it would crack.
"What the fuck!" I tried to scream. He flipped me over shoving tape over my mouth. He grabbed me by the under arm dragging me out of my room. I wasn't even wearing shoes. I was shoved into an elevator that was heading towards the ground floor.
Once the elevator came to a halt I was thrown into what looked like an interrogation room. Phantom sat at one side of the table and Scorpion stood next to him. The tall man closed the door behind us as he pushed me to take a seat. He zip tied my hands to the sides of the chair. I realized I was facing three men who have not seen my entire face, I looked down at my feet avoiding any further eye contact.
"Do you know why you're here?" Phantoms voice was low. All I could do was shake my head. The tape on my mouth was quickly ripped off leaving behind a heavy stinging sensation.
"You will speak when you're spoken to." He raised his voice.
"No!" I yelled.
"You're a fucking spy." Scorpions Irish tongue spat out. I still avoided eye contact.
"I'm not a fucking spy." I said sternly.
"Look us in the eye when you speak!" Phantom screamed. It echoed off the walls every time he rose his voice.
"You don't need to see my fucking face to know if I'm lying or not Grayson." I mumbled. Suddenly my head was yanked up and had the hair pulled out of my face. Scorpions face was uncomfortable. He immediately avoided eye contact. I've mentioned it before, my scar was a very touchy subject. It made lots of people uncomfortable. It didn't disfigure me in anyway but it made people stare. It isn't the scar itself I have troubles talking about it's the story behind it.
"Who do you work for." Phantom asked calmly.
"Who do you fucking think, you, you asshole!" I yelled. Having my face exposed like this was causing my mind to stay unfocused. Phantom looked up at the tall cloth-masked man that was holding my head up and gave him a nod. The tall man pulled out a knife and held it up against my throat roughly but not rough enough where it was drawing blood.
"I'll ask you again, who do you work for." Phantom said slapping down a folder of papers. I smirked.
I leaned into the blade as hard as I could as it pressed into my skin more and more feeling it slowly slicing open my neck just above my collar bones. It wasn't deep and was definitely superficial wounds.
"I don't know what the fuck you are on about." I said calmly still pressing into the knife. Suddenly I was cut free. Was it over? I thought about all the possibilities of what could happen next and none of them were good. My wrists were cut free as I rubbed them trying to get the zip tie indent out of my skin.
"Congratulations Wendigo, you're officially one of us. Kayo go get the first aid kit and take care of that." Phantom said pointing to my neck. I felt blood dripping onto my shirt as the cotton fibers welcomed it in.
"This was a test..?" My voice broke.
"We have to make sure you're willing to die for this position. I don't mean that as a figure of speech." Phantom said as he walked out of the room with Scorpion.
"Hi, my name is Kayo." The tall man in front of me said, holding the first aid kit. His voice was soft. It wasn't anything like earlier.
"Take a seat, I'll fix you right up." His eyes scrunched under his mask, he was smiling. I sat down defeated. My head still throbbed in pain I put my forehead in my hands.
"Ah-ah head up I need to fix you." He said touching the back of my neck and part of his hand brushed over the spot that hurt the most on my head.
"You have a nice bump there. What happened?" Kayo said taking out an antiseptic wipe and gently running it over my skin.
"I got into a fight with Midas. He was choking me out.. I got out of it.. started choking him out and then Phantom yelled. I lost focus and Midas threw me. I ended up smacking my head on the metal railing on the roof." I sighed looking up at the ceiling to keep my face out of his way while he tended to my wound.
"Midas will be dealt with. How did this happen?" He says as I look at him and he points to the scar on my face. Anyone that would have known what happened is dead now. I could tell Kayo knew I was mentally struggling with what to say.
"Everyone here has been through shit, you're gonna have to say what happened sooner or later, Wendigo." He said comfortingly.
War, death, blood.. it didn't scare me. What people are capable of when they think there is no consequences, terrifies me.
