Kayo had been back for days and not a single word was shared between the two of us. Merlin strictly advised me to leave him be and he was to have no visitors in his room. I had walked past his room only a few times since then, only to see if the door was open. The door was always shut but trays of half eaten food were on the floor each time I passed by. I decided it was time to break the silence and finally try to speak to him, disobeying Merlin's orders.
It was just after midnight when I snuck into his hallway past the security that was posted outside the building. When I reached his door I made two soft knocks and just as I was about to let a third knock go the door flung open. The abruptness startled me but it was Kayo's angry eyes that scared me even more. When he realized who had disturbed him I saw his stare soften. I went to speak and he held up a finger to his cloth mask telling me to be quiet and moved out of the doorway, allowing me inside. He quietly shut his door and pressed a firm hand on my shoulder.
"What are you doing here?" He asked surprised I came to see him.
"We haven't talked since your return. I needed to know you were okay." I stammered. He sighed softly sitting down on the edge of his bed.
"It was a terrible mission. I don't want to talk about it." He said rubbing the back of his neck. I went to cup his face over his mask when he grabbed my wrist, squeezing it hard.
"Kayo.. Kayo! You're hurting me!" I tried to be quiet, I almost fell to my knees from his strong grip.
"Don't. Touch. Me. There." His voice was demonic. He continued squeezing my wrist, my bones felt like they would break as I let out a wailing scream. His eyes had the same soulless and angry look as before. He looked at me like I was an enemy. He used his free hand and wrapped it around my throat starting to squeeze but the door busted open quickly as Merlin and Phantom both walked in.
"Kayo! Let go of her!" Merlin's voice demanded as he practically tackled him. Merlin had Kayo pinned to the floor as I coughed a little bit from the sudden release of his grip and Phantom grabbed me pulling me out of the room.
"You were told to stay away from him for now. Why do you not listen, Marek? Do you enjoy being hurt? Is that it?" He kept questioning. I had to catch my breath before answering.
"I had no idea." I gasped softly.
"You were told stay away." He said pointing in my face.
"Other than to stay away I was given no information. I didn't know this is how he was! You can't tell me to do something without having a fucking reason to back it up Lieutenant!" I was angry. I was letting my anger unleash on him. He gets me hurt on more than one occasion and this is how I'm still getting treated?
"You better watch that mouth." He warned.
I punched at the wall that was level with his head leaving my knuckles indented in it.
"OR FUCKING WHAT!" I screamed and my voice cracked.
"Get yourself together sergeant." He said in a low tone as if he was disgusted.
"You've treated me like shit ever since I came here. If you want to have it out Phantom now's the time." I was ready to let loose.
"I thought you would have learned respect once you got the shiner on your face but I guess I was wrong." He was taunting me and I wasn't having it. I rushed him tackling him down to the ground and threw a solid punch to his left eye. His shades snapped and the lens shattered into pieces. I was being yanked up off of him by Merlin but before I was pulled away entirely I mentally took note of the bright green eye that looked shocked by my actions.
