Russia's temperatures were frigid which meant thick and warm gear for protection against frost bite. The helicopter whirred to life as Phantom motioned for us to climb aboard. It was only going to be the five of us and Hyde was our pilot. I squeezed in between Merlin and Kayo while Phantom took shotgun. We took off barely a minute later and Phantom switched on comms for our headsets.
PHANTOM: You scared back there?
WENDIGO: I've dealt with worse.
KAYO: Leave the leibling alone lieutenant for once yeah?
HYDE: We should be there in about thirty minutes.
MERLIN: You have a soft spot for the fresh blood Kayo? Ha-ha-ha.
They all went back and forth over comms for the length of the flight while I sat there silent. Taking a life or multiple lives didn't bother me but being in unfamiliar territory with a small squad to take out unknown numbers was entirely different. I wrestled with my mind of several outcomes of this mission trying to remain positive and strong, hoping for the best.
PHANTOM: Hyde stay here with the craft and we'll be back.
MERLIN: Let's go!
We rushed out of the aircraft as I held up my weapon looking through the area through a thermal scope. The helicopter blades slowly died down as we all switched our radios to a different channel so we could hear each other.
PHANTOM: Wendigo, you and Kayo cover the south end. Merlin and I will cover the north end. We will be on channel two.. and remember, shoot to kill.
We all nodded in agreement of what our plan was. Phantom and Merlin disappeared into the wooded area and I sifted through the snow to keep up with Kayo. The cold air stung my face even through my balaclava.
"Night vision leibling. I hear voices." Kayo whispered to me. I watched him flick down his goggles and push forward. I raised my weapon looking through the thermal scope spotting two hot figures in a guard tower. I grabbed Kayo by the arm holding him in place as I quickly fired off two silenced rounds watching the bodies fall.
"Good work. Let's move." He praised. We sprinted through the powdery snow, scaling the tall fence in no time. I rushed in front of Kayo scanning the area through my scope. Another hot silhouette and another round fired. I had no idea how many hostiles were in this place. Kayo and I pushed along dropping an occasional subject till we reached a three story building. A bullet whizzed past my head as I quickly turned around firing multiple rounds into a hostiles chest. I took a deep breath meeting Kayo's gaze.
"We need to move." I said angrily. We started to ascent the stairs to the building as an explosion boomed to the north of us.
"They know we're here. We've got to move!" Kayo shouted. Rapid gun fire echoed in the distance as we reached a door on the highest story. Kayo kicked it in allowing me to go first. I jumped in the doorway dropping three more bodies while more voices could be heard in the stairwell below us. Kayo went to push further towards the voices and I stopped him.
"I got it." I said pulling out a throwing knife and my dagger from my leg harness. I crept silent down the stairs seeing two more hostiles chatting like nothing was wrong. Their radios went off with loud screaming in Russian as they looked at each other. I took my chance and threw my knife landing one subject square in the eye and rushed the other burying my dagger through the bottom of his jaw into his skull before pulling it back out causing blood splatter to land on my face. I breathed heavily as Kayo came after me almost stunned to see me this way.
"Jesus Christ leibling." He whispered.
"We have to go." I said coldly.
As we looked at each other the door burst open and out came a singular hostile but he wasn't armed. He was in the darkness and I couldn't see his face but his voice sounded familiar to me.
"Please! Don't kill me! I beg of you!" He shrieked.
I held my weapon up jumping off the edge of the railing on the stairs slowly approaching him. I moved into the light seeing his hands up in the darkness.
"Anastasia?" His voice questioned.
"Who are you!" I shouted taking another step closer.
"Ana! Ana it's me! It's Lukas!" He pleaded.
"Wendigo who is this man?" Kayo questioned me.
"It's my brother." I said softly.
