Three weeks had gone by as we waited for our next missions orders. It felt like Kayo and I spent every minute together but in reality he wouldn't let me go anywhere by myself. Everyone had taken notice of our new routines, especially Phantom.
I was ordered to see him alone in his office and as usual Merlin was by his side.
"You sent for me?" I said.
"Have a seat." Merlin motioned to the chair in front of Phantom's desk.
"We're going to Iran tomorrow and we need to discuss something." Phantom spoke up.
"Well what is it? The suspense is frightening." I joked not gauging the seriousness of what Phantom was about to say to me.
"We know you and Kayo are an item and since you both are on the team for this mission we are separating the two of you. He'll be on alpha squad and you'll be on bravo squad." He explained.
"You don't trust me?" I questioned.
"Now Ana, you know better. If one of you gets hurt emotions will run ramped and we need focused operators." He sighed. Phantom tried to explain further but I held up my hand for him to stop talking.
"I understand. Am I dismissed?" I asked breaking eye contact with both of them.
"Yes." He said very cut and dry. I took my leave and immediately started my search for Kayo. I walked hastily turning the corner running face first into Hyde.
"Watch where you're fuckin' walking!" He yelled at me.
"Fuck off Hyde. Where's Kayo?" I asked.
"Don't fuckin' know, don't fuckin' care." He grumbled as he pushed past me shoving me off balance into the wall. I collected myself as I went into the dining hall scanning the room for him. His hooded figure wasn't anywhere to be seen and I left to continue looking for him.
Nausea was building rapidly in my stomach and my mouth salivated. I rushed to my room, breaking off my search. My body was already wanting to heave as I struggled to open the door eventually barreling through. I barely made it to the bathroom sink as I pulled down my face mask spewing vomit everywhere. I heaved several more times until there was nothing left when Kayo's soft voice emerged in my room.
"Leibling?" He said softly.
"Don't come in here!" I yelled slamming the bathroom door closed.
"Open up." He demanded. I quickly cleaned the sink and gargled water to cleanse my mouth before opening up the door.
"Hi." I said wiping my mouth before putting my mask back over it.
"I was told you were looking for me, is everything okay?" He asked. The concern was apparent in his tone and he was being gentle with me as he guided me to the couch across the room.
"Yes. Phantom told me we're going separately on our mission. I wanted to tell you." I said breathlessly as the nausea was simmering still in my stomach.
"Oh liebling I know. It's okay. We will get through it, you're a strong soldier and I can handle my own too." He reassured.
"I know.. I just didn't want to be separated is all." I replied with disappointment in my voice.
He pulled me into him and kissed the top of my head through his cloth hood.
"You're so ruthless yet so sweet." He chuckled holding me.
"You brought that out of me." I mumbled. My emotions felt out of place and I was feeling things I've never focused on before but I had to get my head clear before this mission.
