Ch. 36

                                       Harper POV 

I was a fool. I am currently sitting on the bench at the park waiting for Tony. I was such a fool to think they would ever change. To just be proud and love me like they used to before We found out I was smarter than most kids. Is it me? do they simply despise me just because I'm smart? 

I let out a sigh as I look down at my hands that are folded in my lap. 

I am snapped out of my thoughts by someone clearing their throat. I look up and meet Tony's eyes. 

I stand up. 

"Harp I'm so-" He began 

I didn't say anything I just hugged him. Tony has alway and still is my anchor when it comes to the way my family treats me. 

He stiffens but then wraps his arms around me. I'm sure he's a little taken back since I'm not one to show my emotions like this.

"They were only pretending to be nice.... They wanted me to.." I say as I am trying so hard not to break down and cry. 

"Hey it's alright. They are pieces of trash to treat someone like you who is beyond brilliant the way they have been.' He says as he pets my hair 

We separate. 

"Come on let's go back home." He says 

I nod and we both get in the car.

The car ride was quiet and the plane ride was since I was trying not to freak out due to the fear of flying thing. 

Now we are back in the tower. I am on the roof. I don't look down because of well you know. I just watch the skyline. they sun was already down when we arrived. my legs dangling off the building as I am gripping the bars of the railing. 

I just wish I could understand. 

I let out a sigh seeing the fog from the cold I hear a pair of footsteps. I look over my shoulder seeing Steve. 

"Tony said you would be up here." He says 

I just nod and continuing looking at the the stars. 

"Beautiful night." He says 

"Yeah." I say 

"Tony told me what happened you want to talk about it?" He says 

"I don't know I guess for being so smart it is kind of dumb to ever think someone is going to change." I say 

"It's not dumb, You were just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt." He says 

"Yeah, I've done it too many times." I say

"My mom back handed me and I don't know something in me just snapped. I grabbed her by the wrist when she tried to do it again. and applied pressure. I bent her arm behind her back." I say with a sigh

"It told them all I'm done. They aren't my family anymore. I can only take so much heart ache." I say 

"It's understandable." He says 

"Is it? Am I being too harsh?" I asked 

He shook his head no. 

"You have given them way too many chances. Enough is enough." He says 

I nodded 

"Come on I'm sure you're hungry." He says with a smile as he gets up offering me his hand. 

I take it. I stop in my tracks though I need to tell him now or I'm never going to get it out. 

"What is it?" He asked clearly seeing the look on my face. 

I reach in my pocket pulling out the paper and handing it to him. His eyebrows crinkle as he reads the paper. Then his eyes widen. 

He looks at me in shock. 

"You're-" He says 

I nodded slowly as we both stand there on the roof.
