Ch. 1 "My life"

                                                       Harper POV 

I was working late at the university when my phone rang, I looked who it was I sighed, it was my mom, 

You see me and my family don't get along too well, It started when I was young when they first discovered I was smarter than most kids, 

That's when my parents started hitting me, and verbally abusing me, when I graduated and went to collage, that's when they started calling me yelling at me all the time, we never could have a simple conversation, 

And if I didn't answer their calls they would fly out here to yell at me and tell me what a disappointment I am and yada yada yada, causing a scene in front of the campus, that is why I never really bothered to get to know anyone, 

But when I was thirteen in my first year of Collage at Harvard, I met Tony Stark, he was there for the science department which is what I was majoring in, 

After his presentation and Class was over, I stopped him telling him he got something wrong in one of his formulas, 

He laughed at me at first, then after much argument he seen I was right, then asked what a kid like me was doing here in the first place, 

When I told him I was pretty much a genius, he started coming around more often, we would discuss  Ideas, and problems, and I guess that's where our friendship started, sure there was a major age gap, But I enjoyed Tony's company 

After the Phone ringing brought me out of my thoughts I answered it, 

"Hello," I said 

"Well it's about time you picked up," My mom said angry, 

"Sorry I'm a little busy at work," I said 

"Right, working at Harvard head of the science department," My mom chuckled 

"I wish you would be more like your brother, you know he went in the police academy yesterday," She said 

"I thought he was going to collage for a CSI?" I said 

"Yeah well that didn't pan out that's why I'm calling, I need you to pay off his debt and our loan we took out to help him," My mom said 

I rolled my eyes, and sighed 

"I can't do that, I hardly have the money to pay for my apartment let alone that," I said 

She scoffed 

"You are working at the best university in the world, how can you hardly afford your apartment," She said 

"Well probably because I had to pay off a few other things for you last week," I said 

"Don't make excuses, why can't you just be more like your brother!" she said 

I really wanted to tell her off, but I couldn't do that, 

"look mom I can't he needs to take responsibility for his actions he should have stuck it out," I said 

"Don't you talk like that! he's done a whole lot better than you!" She said 

"Look mom I have to go," I said 

"Of course you do!" She said 

Then she hung up, 

I looked down at my phone, I felt my lip quiver, as tears welled up, I just don't understand why they never liked me, 

all they like me for now is my money, I thought 

My boss knocked I wiped away the tears, 

"Hey, umm why don't you take some time off," He said 

"Huh?" I said looking at him, 

"You've been working non stop, even now, its eight at night, go home, take a few weeks," He said 

I nodded 

I stood up walking out of the university once I got home I made a split decision and packed a few things, 

I locked the door, and walked out, I took a Taxi to the airport, I bought a ticket to New York, 

I can't take my parents using me as their personal money bank, I'm sick of them talking down to me, there is only one person I can really talk to and hopefully he doesn't mind me just popping by Avengers tower, 

I know Pepper wouldn't mind she's slowly wearing me down to actually like her, I thought as the plane took off, 

By the time the plane landed it was late afternoon the next day, I took a taxi to the tower, and walked past the reception area, I took the elevator to the suite where Tony and Pepper live, 

Once the Elevator opened I see Tony and Pepper on the couch, Tony's eyes almost popped out of his head, 

"Harper?" He said stunned, 

"Sorry to umm, Drop in like this but I need your advice," I said looking at him, 

Pepper and him looked at each other concerned
