"I'm sorry, what?" I asked my father. Did I hear him correctly?
"The wedding's off." He repeated sternly. "You are not going to marry Draco."
It was like someone slapped me in the face. If he had said this a month ago I would've cheered, hell I would've thrown a party. But now? After I developed feelings? It was devastating. I looked at Malfoy who seemed just as shocked, as his jaw was practically on the floor.
"May I ask why?" asked Malfoy.
"Oh it's nothing to do with you dear." Said Mrs Malfoy reassuringly. "It's her." She said the latter with a venomous undertone while glaring at me.
"What is this about?" I asked carefully, my voice was quivering.
"A young lady owled us." Began my father. "She had eyewitnesses that you've been gallivanting with other boys at Hogwarts. Even with a Weasley! A blood traitor! She wrote that it didn't feel right now that you were betrothed. We were appalled! Ashamed! How could you Elenore!"
"Who wrote to you?" I asked, my voice shaking. I swear if this was Pansey's doing, still trying to screw me over, I would absolutely, no doubt, murder her in cold blood.
"Miss... Greengrass I believe." Said my mother. "It doesn't matter who wrote it! Is any of this true?" Greengrass? Daphne?!
"Not exactly I-" I started.
"Miss Avery tell us now." demanded Lucius ice cold.
"Some," I said. "but it's not what you think!"
"I think it's exactly as I think." Said Lucius as he stood up from his chair, looking down at me from his nose. He narrowed his eyes at me in disgust and turned to his son. "I'm going to find you a new bride. No discussion." He said pointing his cane at him. "You are not allowed to have any further contact with her! Let's go Cissy." Mrs Malfoy stood up and nodded at my mother before she and her husband left the establishment. Now it was only Malfoy and me, with my parents.
"I'm very disappointed in you. How could you do this to Draco!" said my father angry as he looked from me at Malfoy and back.
"Mr Avery, it's not what you think." Said Malfoy as he tried to defend me. I wasn't sure if I needed defending, but it made me feel funny anyway. "We are together, Elenore and I." he continued.
"Then is the girl that wrote to us a liar?" said my mother indignantly.
"Not really-" I started but my mother held up a hand.
"We know enough. We can't marry you into the Malfoy family, not a disgrace like you. I think you should consider yourself fortunate if you ever get married at all." She said.
"Why do I even need to get married? Why don't I have a say in this!" I said getting annoyed. "You all planned this out for us, you didn't even consider to ask us our opinion!"
"Keep your mouth shut." Hissed my father towards me. "You are a pureblood! This is how things are done!"
A pureblood thing? Oh that's just bloody marvellous now isn't it?! I suddenly felt envious of the muggle-borns and half-bloods.
"Hush dear." Said my mother to my father trying to calm him down. "We haven't agreed to another marriage for you, but we're considering either Amycus Carrow or Renfryd Goyle's son."
Malfoy's cheeks reddened in anger. I felt my blood turn ice cold, was this my punishment for threatening Marie? They are setting me up with Goyle? Goyle!
Please, kill me now.
