The Lessons of History

I was always told

As a bold little girl

"Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it"

I understand that now

As I see the articles

I find it devastatingly remarkable

How men and women

Tear down

These once praises monuments

Of these defenders

Who the world once seemed to remember

To have been deemed important

These once shiny and new

Pieces of treasure

Are now forgotten pleasures

These once important

Historical figures

Are being forgotten

Because of this rotten

Young generation

That let slip who got them here

They will disappear

Just like a hot adrenaline rush

They forgot that these monstrous men

Are the reasons we live in such a land

They choose to forget

Instead of bearing

This heavy weight

of disseminate knowledge

They will not remember

How these heroic members

Now burnt to embers

Who fought for this land

When we knew nothing

But how to be mad

They will be doomed to repeat

The suffering heat

Of every faulty error

Once endured by all this terror

Children in 50 years

Will not remember

Because it offended someone

ITS SUPPOSE TO OFFEND YOU

For if you're offended

Then you understood it

If you are offended then you will not repeat it

History is not there for us to love or hate

It is there

For our young minds

To learn from

For if we knew

What went wrong

We will know how to do it right

And how to be strong

We learn from history

And I am terrified

That one day

All too soon

No one will

Remember

The good

The awful

And the mess inbetween
