Most people don't know how to read Bakugou, and most never will. However, the squad is proficient in all his facial expressions and body language. Once you crack the code, it's not complicated.

As the squad "mom," it's Sero's unofficial self-proclaimed job to watch out for their "kids." Their eye has been on Bakugou for a few months now. Once Kirishima finally got his head out of his ass and asked Bakugou out, Bakugou's surliness and brooding toned down a lot, though the anger stayed.

Sero can't put their finger on what's different now. Bakugou hasn't been any more angry than usual, but he's more sad, it seems. He's more withdrawn lately. He's been avoiding squad hangouts more than he did before.

Or- Sero thinks back over the past few times Bakugou has hung out with them - Bakugou has been joining in a few sleepovers and outings, but only on the days Kirishima can't attend. That's unusual. When they first became a friend group, Bakugou only came on trips if Kirishima begged him to.

Sero can sense the divide forming between their leader and the resident sunshine boy. They don't know what's causing it, but they know they must do something.

They put their "plan" into action on a Saturday afternoon. Every week, without fail, Bakugou and Kirishima go out on a date. Sero parks themself in the kitchen, using the table to add to their illusion of working on homework. They get there thirty minutes before their friends typically leave, hoping one of them will come down early so they can try to wriggle what's going on out of one of them.

Their wish is granted. Bakugou stomps into the common room ten minutes later. He throws himself down on the couch in a relaxed sprawl. Sero leans against the door frame in the kitchen. "Waiting on Kirishima, Bakubro?"

Bakugou grunts in lieu of answering.

"What's the date this time?"

"Paintballing."

"Kirishima's gonna love that."

Bakugou glances impatiently at his watch. "He will if he ever fucking shows up."

"What time do you need to leave?"

"Now."

"Have you tried calling him? It's not like Kirishima to be late without letting you know."

"Of course I have. Eijirou isn't answering."

"Are you worried about him? I can try to call as well."

Bakugou shakes his head at the offer. "No need."

Sero observes the slump of Bakugou's shoulders and the almost defeated demeanor around him. Oh, yeah, Sero needs to do something to fix what's going on.

They leave Bakugou to his own devices and trudge back to the kitchen. They keep an eye on the other while they grab a popcorn bag out of Bakugou's cabinet, making a big show of it as they do, hoping to spark a reaction. It doesn't work.

Bakugou slumps back into the cushions, routinely checking his phone for messages. He tries once to call Kirishima and almost throws his phone when he gets voicemail. Sero's heart sinks as an hour passes by.
