After Marinette turned 13 the next may the quartet started school together Adriens father finally allowing him to attend an actual school, that was as long as his friend Marinette was in every class with him, as a sort of a precaution to make sure everything would be fine, Adrien had a phone so that he could communicate with home and Marinette and his friends, though he often would never communicate to his father and most of the time he was absorbed in his crush on Marinette, despite being also in regular contact with his soulmate who he'd waited over half a year to get ahold of, but he knew she probably just hadn't gotten a phone yet. Adrien entered class on the first day, Marinette wasn't there yet though, he'd heard from Nino that she was constantly late, the school actually had began to let her off for it knowing she would show up eventually, so the only time she got in trouble was when there was a substitute present in place of the actual teachers.
"Hey bro, your 14th birthday is coming up, I think we should do a big Halloween bash for it!" Nino spoke excitedly as he sat in the seat next to Adrien, 20 minutes after the first bell rang a disheveled navy haired female entered the room, it was mid-September so her attire was verging right at the end of summer beginning of fall, wearing skinny blue jeans, with a pink cropped tank top and a black cardigan, with her normal pink converse and her hair was in a messy bun, Adrien couldn't help but blush, it felt as though it had been forever since he'd seen her with how much she'd changed, it had been since her birthday since the last time he'd seen her in person.
Marinette smiled as she walked past Adrien, taking her seat directly behind him and next to Alya who automatically commented on her outfit. "Girl, you look good, like way to good to be only 13." Alya commented, and Adrien couldn't help but agree, Marinette had definitely matured since the last time he saw her, granted he had changed quite a bit to, but not so much so.
"She looks like a mess, like she just stepped out of a dumpster." Chloe scoffed completely forgetting that Adrien would be the first to defend the navy haired baker girl, standing from his seat quickly hearing Chloe comment on Marinette. "I for one think she looks great, and Chloe if you could keep your mouth shut, that would be much appreciated." Adrien spoke quickly, not realizing the blue eyed girl behind him was staring at him with wide eyes at just how much he'd shot up in height since May.
Marinette pulled her phone out under the desk, she had been texting with her soulmate all night, however he hadn't responded since they said goodnight, they called each other Ladybug and Chat Noir, like good and bad luck, however Marinette felt the roles should've been reversed since she often had far more bad luck than it seemed he did, he always said it was because of a lucky object from his best friend from a few years back, but she was sure it was just dumb luck.
"Girl, your prince is literally standing up for you in front of you and you're getting butt hurt about your soulmate not messaging you?" Alya whispered to Marinette, pointing to Adrien who quickly sat down in his seat, the brunette was often amazed at how Marinette was so obsessed with the system of soulmates despite the fact that Marinette and Adrien very obviously had something going on between them. "Adrien is great, but my Soulmate hasn't responded since last night, I'm just getting worried about him." Marinette whispered, the stipulation was that no one could message with their soulmate unless they'd already met them in person, therefore the fact that both Adrien and Marinette had access to this app upon first receiving their phones was indeed a very uncommon occurrence.
By lunch Marinette had finally received a response, she was now sitting eagerly at the lunch table texting back and forth with her soulmate, however Adrien was doing the same thing, Alya peaked at Marinette's phone, Nino peaking at Adriens, exchanging a glance, nodding their heads, they were both in agreement that the 2 were definitely texting each other, while sitting directly across from each other. "You know we're here too!" Alya yelled catching the two off guard causing them both to drop their phones, the two brunettes grabbing their phones before the blonde and blunette could grab them. "Talk! Like normal humans!" Nino yelled as he shoved Adriens phone into his pocket, keeping the device away from Adrien so that he could actually put his attention into his soulmate rather than his phone.
"Hey! I was texting someone!" Marinette yelled as she tried to snatch her phone from Alya who just put the phone in her bag. "You know the soulmate app doesn't even work if you don't already know your soulmate Mari, which means he's somewhere right before your eyes." Alya spoke giving Mari a hint, but the navy haired girl just had wide eyes upon hearing this information, she had been able to text her soulmate since she got her phone, which meant it had to be someone she was already friends with, though she wasn't exactly sure because he was like no one she had ever met. He was funny, made ridiculous puns, sent her stupid cat memes all the time, she had never seen his face, but she knew he had great fashion sense, along with being tall, he had told her a few weeks back he had a doctors appointment and he was 5'9 at only 13, that was tall, considering Marinette was only 5'1 having inherited her mothers height genetics.
Adriens eyes just landed on Marinette, she'd been the only other person in the room receiving consistent messages, but he didn't know if he was right, she was amazing, perfect, sweet, beautiful, especially after the summer, but, she was hell bent on finding her soulmate, and if he wasn't it, he didn't want to get in the way of that for her, he liked her, he knew that much but he didn't want to be the reason she possibly rejected her soulmate if it wasn't him.
