two weeks later

Kaia

The weather finally let up and I was able to go visit my family, I didn't let them know that I was coming because I wanted to surprise everyone. It took several days to get to Nebraska but I finally arrived and I rented a vehicle until I had to leave again. I made sure to park the car near the cabin that way nobody would know I was here as I made my way inside my cabin with my bags. I headed to my parents house and quietly walked through the door without anybody knowing.

I seen my mom in the kitchen and placed my hands over her eyes...

Salem: now isn't the time for games Jaxx, I'm cooking dinner...

I lowered my hands and remembered how we used to tease my mom whenever she was in the kitchen cooking dinner for us.

She turned around and let out an excited yell before bursting into tears instantly.

Kaia: don't cry mom...

Salem: why didn't you call and let us know you were coming?

Kaia: I wanted it to be a surprise, where is everyone at?

Salem: they should be coming in soon, you should surprise them.

I heard a few horses neighing and I quickly hid where they wouldn't see me but I heard what they were saying.

Garrett: any word from Kaia?

Salem: she's probably still waiting out the storm she is stuck in. I sure do wish she could be here for the holidays

Jaxx: dinner smells delicious Mrs. Miller.

Salem: you two go wash up, it will be done shortly.

I watched as they went to clean up and my mom put out four plates instead of three.

Garrett: are we expecting someone else for dinner?

Salem: no, I just figured someone else might show up for dinner. Jaxx will your father be joining us for dinner?

Jaxx: he mentioned something about coming but I don't know.

Salem: I will get another plate just in case...

I watched as she grabbed a plate from the cupboard close to where I was hiding when I heard her whisper to me.

Salem: now might be your only chance. Go ahead...

I didn't want to risk them hearing me in case I tripped while I come out of my hiding place so I waited to surprise my dad when Jaxx wasn't around.

Jaxx: I better get home before my dad comes looking for me, thank you for dinner Mrs. Miller...

Salem: you're welcome Jaxx, have a good night...

Jaxx: good night...

I watched as he walked past me without seeing me but I took the opportunity to surprise my dad while he was outside unsaddling the horses. I snuck up behind him and grabbed his braids and acted like they were reigns...

Garrett: I thought you were going home Jaxx?

I didn't say anything and hid on the other side of the horse after he turned around, I had enough time to hide my hair under a hat that was on the porch and start walking towards the barn with the horse.

Garrett: where are you going with my horse? Come back here...

He eventually caught up with me and I begun laughing uncontrollably.

Garrett: wait a minute... Kaia is that you?

I removed the hat from my head and handed it to him.

Kaia: hi dad...

Garrett: how long have you been here?

Kaia: long enough for mom to grab two extra plates and put them on the dinner table...

Garrett: I'm glad you're home my daughter.

Kaia: it's good to be home, the place looks great.

Garrett: are you going to tell Jaxx that you're back? He asks us if we heard from you everyday since you left.

Kaia: I will wait and tell him tomorrow, I'm tired. Please don't let him know that I'm here, I want it to be a surprise.

Garrett: alright, go get some rest Kaia...

Kaia: see y'all in the morning. Good night mom and dad.

Salem: good night Kaia...

I walked to my cabin and walked inside and locked the door before getting a shower. I noticed that I had a missed a text from Matt and decided to text him back.

M: I hope you made it home safely, text me when you get time, good night Kaia.

K: I just arrived an hour ago. I will talk with you tomorrow. Good night Matt.

I put my phone on charge and picked out an outfit to wear to bed and got a quick shower...
