"Hello?" she answered, as she cocooned herself under her covers.

"Hey," She heard Jimmy greet through the phone, "I just wanted to check and make sure you got home safe and stuff."

"Yeah, I'm all good," She smiled to herself, "thanks."

"Yeah," Jimmy began before he was interrupted by Allison's dog, Buddy, barking loudly and running off into the other room.

"Sorry, Jimmy," she rolled her eyes, "It's my dog; there might be someone at my door, cuz he doesn't usually bark, so hold on a sec."

She unwillingly moped out from under her warm comforter and made contact with her hard wood floor and went out into her main living space where her dog sat, wagging and barking at her door.

"Is everything okay?" she heard Jimmy ask.

"Hold on I'm going to check right now." She whispered back through her cell phone.

She tip toed to her peep hole to see an unfamiliar man waiting outside her door, she didn't hear any knocking so she thought it was strange that he was just waiting there.

"A?" she heard Jimmy question anxiously a few times, since she was trying to keep quiet as to convey that no one was home to this unacquainted person.

Allison silently locked the second deadbolt on her door to ensure her safety before gently walking back to her room and shutting the door behind her.

"Are you there?"

"Sorry," She whispered, "there's someone at my door and I've never seen him before so I'm trying to be quiet so he just thinks I'm not home."

"He's trying to get in?"

"No," Allison shook her head, "He just sorta waiting outside my door."

"Do you need me to come down there?" he offered, "Or call someone?"

"No, it's all good." Allison shrugged to herself, "You've already done a lot for me tonight, you should get some sleep." She spoke softly, regaining her warm position under her blanket, "I got it."

"Just want you to be safe." He said to her.

"Hey," she said a little more reassuring, "I'll be okay, go to sleep it's late."

"Fine," she heard him sigh through the phone and couldn't help but smile a bit, "Night, A".

"Night, J." she said, and then briefly paused before hanging up and setting her phone on her night stand.

She woke up to Buddy back at her feet and sun shining on her. She reached over to pet him before she peeled her covers off and got up. Turning to look in her mirror she was a mess; hair everywhere, old make up smeared down her face and a dark bruise had formed on her shoulder.

She really didn't know what her day held for her but she knew she wouldn't be able to do anything without a cup of coffee. So, while starting her daily pot of coffee she peered out into the hall through her peephole to see it was empty. A small wave of relief passed over her as she heard her phone buzz indicating a text message. It was Jimmy.

She couldn't help but smile as she saw he asked her what she was doing today. She had no idea what to say in response, so she immediately called the person who always knew what to say. Kelly.
