"Hey Kel, are you busy right now?" she asked through the phone to her best friend.
"No, why what's up?" she heard Kelly ask.
"Okay well Jimmy just asked me what I was doing today, and I wanted your advice on how to reply." She admitted.
"Hmm," Kelly thought out loud, "Well, you and me are going to lunch so I would just tell him that like me and you are doing something until around 4 but that you don't have anything else going on after that." She responded.
"Yeah..." Allison said, feeling stupid. That was definitely something she could have thought up on her own, "I'll see you for lunch later then."
"Okay, see you."
She hung up her phone call with Kelly before responded to Jimmy.
"Well I'm busy until around four but I'm free after that. Why what's up?" she texted to him and put her phone done with a sigh. Why was life so damn complicated for her?
She laughed to herself before beginning to do some things she needed to get done; such as laundry, dishes and vacuuming before she realized it was already one o'clock and she needed to take a shower and get ready for lunch with Kelly.
She was so focused on getting ready she didn't even check her phone until after she got out of the shower, she had a few texts from Kelly telling her where they were going to meet for lunch and a response from Jimmy. Jimmy had told her that Joakim was having people over at his house tonight and he wanted to know if Allie could go. On one hand she was a little let down that Jimmy was only asking for someone else, but on the other hand she thought it brought her closer to reality.
She realized she needed to stop thinking of the two of them as something they were not in order to have a friendly relationship with him. She changed into white long sleeve shirt and some dark jeans before feeding Buddy and making her way out of her door.
She made her way down the stairs instead of taking the elevator and walked out onto the busy Chicago sidewalk where Kelly was just walking up.
"Hey love," she greeted warmly, "ready to go?"
"Yeah," Allison smiled, "Let's go!"
They crossed the street and began making their way to the restaurant in which they were going for lunch.
"So what did Jimmy ask?" Kelly questioned with a mischievous look on her face.
"Nothing really," Allison shrugged, "Jo is having people over and he asked Jimmy to ask if I could come."
"Oh..." Kelly responded with a confused face, "Well, we're going to have to figure out that one won't we?" Kelly questioned as they made their way inside.
"No, K, c'mon," Allison rolled her eyes a bit annoyed, "I don't want to talk about this anymore."
"Ohhh," Kelly grinned, "Allison has a crush, Allison has a crush." She began chanting like a 5th grader as the hostess was about to ask them to be seated.
"Honestly, let it go," Allison breathed, "nothing it going to happen between us, so there isn't a point in talking about it over and over again."
"Yeah, nothing is going to happen," Kelly crossed her arms, "Because you never even try anymore, honestly you're getting older and no guy wants someone who's mean, like you can be, so just lighten up."
"Hey, guys!" A familiar voice called out to them, but Allison was too frustrated to take notice.
"Can you just fucking drop it, for once?" Allison asked, "Stay the hell out of my business it's not like I try to tell you what to do with your life."
"Oh...hi." Kelly turned to two tall figures who had approached them mid argument and Allison didn't take notice until now.
"Is everything okay?" Taj asked her, as him and Jimmy had heard a lot of the fight between the two women.
"Yeah, everything's fine." Allison replied in a monotone voice forming an overly charming smile.
"So, are you guys about to get lunch?" Kelly changed the subject.
"Yeah actually." Jimmy replied.
"Well we should all sit together." Kelly beamed, as Allison closed her eyes as to avoid the urge of punching Kelly in the mouth.
"Sure, why not?" Taj shrugged, as the hostess readjusted their seating situation and showed them to a table for four that was outside.
"You sure you guys are good?" Taj whispered in Allison's ear once they sat down next to each other at their table.
Allison nodded, "its fine, she's just always saying stupid stuff to make me mad." Allison whispered back to him.
They went on like this for a minute or so, whispering to each other before Kelly cleared her throat and they both looked at her.
"Great, now that everyone is done telling secrets," Kelly said cynically, "How's everyone's day going?" she asked sweetly, making Allison internally roll her eyes.
Sure, Kelly was her best friend. But, she really knew how to piss her off and her acting like she was just being sweet made her seem so fake to Allison. Recently, Kelly had been far too involved in Allison's love life, and she had had enough of it.
Conversation between the four of them remained casual and no one really brought up anything personal as they all ordered their meals.
While waiting for their food to arrive Kelly's phone began to ring, she looked at the caller ID then back at Allison before excusing herself from the table to answer it.
Allison let out a deep sigh once Kelly was out of ear shot.
"Well you guys really have a crazy friendship."
"She just gets on my nerves easily, you know?" Allison asked, "She knows exactly what to say to piss me off and doesn't really care about what I have to say." Allison shook her head, "But, that's what happens when you've been friends with someone for so long."
"That's how I feel about Taj." Jimmy joked, trying to soften the mood a bit.
"Man, shut up," Taj shook his head, "I'm a good friend."
Just as Allison was releasing a light chuckle she felt someone tap her on the back.
"Oh my god, it's really you."
