Chapter 35- sacrifice

"AVADA KEDAVRA!"

"NOOOOOOO!" I shut my eyes not knowing who just jumped in front of me until Jacob went over and tied her up with the body bind curse and stunned her for every time she tried to move. I looked down and immediately screamed in shock.

Rowan.....

She had jumped in front of us to stop us from dying. "No you can't ROWAN!" Ben screamed. "ROWAN, NO PLEASE NOOOO!" He cried. Ben had never cried since first year when he was scared of flying. "I never told her," he sobbed. "I never got to tell her I loved her,"

Words couldn't describe the amount of guilt I was feeling right now. I had lead Rowan to her death. "YOU FUCKING BITCH! STUPEFY!" He yelled blasting a spell straight at Patricia.

The spells started up again, so me and Jacob headed for the exit. Just so I knew he would be okay. I headed back into the duels with my exes father until Jade hit him with the body bind curse sending him paralysed to the floor.

Now that we had defeated them, we had another problem.

Rowan. She was gone, it took a while for it to all sink in for me and when it did, I cried. I cried buckets. Charlie was holding me as I was crying. I had lost the one girl who had stuck with me through everything. She stayed with me when I got pregnant, she stayed with me when I had my relapses, she even stayed and didn't judge when I told her Severus and I were dating. She supported me through our entire journey here at Hogwarts and now it was all over. "I'm sorry this is all my fault," I said into Charlie's shoulder.

"It wasn't, she willingly sacrificed herself for you, she really cared about you, (y/n) and she wouldn't let you come in here alone," Charlie replied. My tears were nothing compared to Ben. He was Rowan's boyfriend and they never got to the point where they said I love you to each other. Not even once.

"Shall we get out of here?" Antony asked.

"No, I.... I'm... n..not leaving her," Ben sobbed.

"You guys can, I'll stay here with Ben," I suggested.

"I'll stay too," Maddie said.

"I'd rather stay with Charlie to be fair, sorry,"

"Okay then," to that she left the room. All I could do was stand there and look down at Ben crying on Rowans body. Charlie had his arm around me tightly. It really effected him too as he'd known Rowan since they were 3.

"Gosh, this..... I don't...... know," Charlie said.

"Come here Charlie," I wrapped my arms around him and squeezed him tightly into a hug. The one hug we both had when one of us was upset, but this time it was the both of us. We weren't just hurt from Rowans death but we had physical wounds from the spells that hit us.

"I don't want..... to,"

"What?"

"Leave, we can't just leave them there," he let go from the hug and went over to Ben. "I get you.... She was like family to me,"

"I never got to say anything to her,"

"I'm sorry. You two were so good,"

"I know. We were Ben and Rowan but now it's only me. Ben the coward that should never have been in Gryffindor,"

"Coward? I don't think so, you stood up and defeated Patricia all on your own and that was so brave of you, Rowan would have been so proud," he kept staring back and forth from the two of them. "I think it's time to say goodbye, as much as...... I don't.... Want to,"

"You're right, I know what to do, we'll get a portrait of her, so she'll always be remembered!"

"That's great, shall we keep her body in here?"

"No it's too risky, these two could get up at any moment, we'll..." everything was starting to go dark. "We'll figure.... It....."

"(Y/n)!" All went to black.

(Snape PoV)

It was the usual night for me but I couldn't help but think about (y/n) last night. Why did she leave on a whim? What was she doing? Was she alright? I decided to go for a walk to process what had happened. As I approached the clock tower I saw Weasley carrying (y/n). She was covered in blood and he was very bruised, my heart had shattered.

Was she dead? Did she hurt herself? Did Weasley get hurt trying to save her?  Was she okay?

As they walked into the hospital wing, I followed close behind staying outside of the door. I heard sobs, very hard sobs. The voices were faint but I was able to was in there. "I...I just.... Feel so.... So.... Guilty,"

"Why though? You weren't the one who got her killed," killed?

"Yeah but I felt like I could've done better as her boyfriend." Okay it's not (y/n). I mean I hope not.

"Ben, she went and sacrificed herself to save (y/n). None of it was your fault,"

"Charlie's right you know? I know this is completely out of character for me but I'm really gonna miss Rowan, I'll never forget the days when I used to mess her and (y/n) around," Miss Snyde was here too?

"Merula," another female voice spoke out. "I look at the girl you've become and you've changed a lot. That's why I'm so happy to call you my girlfriend,"

"Thanks Ismelda, but I've always wanted to know what inside of that cursed vault. Now I know, I don't ever want to go back in there," cursed vaults? I though (y/n) had given up on that! Clearly she didn't and now something has happened.

I just thought enough was enough. I went in to confront them about this. As I walked in they all looked over at me with fear in their eyes, just like I wanted them to. "Right, I've discovered that one of the cursed vaults has been opened and all of you are in here so I'm guessing it was one of your ideas," they all looked at each other absolutely stunned until I saw a face I knew too well. Jacob (l/n), he went missing after a vault was opened. "Right come on, I need some answers!" They all started muttering until someone shouted.

"SHUSH!" My beloved (y/n). "Se- Professor. It was all my idea," I should have known.

"Right then, all of you may leave while I reason with Miss (l/n) over here," as they all walked out, Maddie turned back to be and gave me a look as to say "don't hurt her" as soon as they all left, I turned to (y/n).

"Do you realise what you got yourself into?"

"I do,"

"And you still went through with it, you could've been killed!"

"But I wasn't though was I?"

"Someone was, I know someone was killed,"

"How? Have you been following us?"

"No, I guessed it from the shut curtains next to you,"

"Fine, someone did get killed. Rowan, she sacrificed herself to save us, it was so unexpected,"

"So you realise what you did was very dangerous?"

"I was aware before we entered the vault Sev! I never expected Rowan to die!" She started to cry. "I know it was dangerous but there was someone in there who needed to be saved and that was Jacob my cousin!"

"Darling... I'm only looking out for you, why didn't you tell me you were doing this?"

"Because no one would have done anything about it! That cursed ice in second year was all me and my friends! No one bothered with it,"

"We were only doing our job (y/n)!" I just looked at her with no emotion. "I love you so much. And it pains me to know that you were hurt!"

"I love you too. I only did this to free Hogwarts and free my cousin," she still had tears streaming down her cheeks. I went down and sat on her bed with her.

"Everything will be okay, I'm terribly sorry about your friend," I gave her a hug to comfort her when she cried.

"It's gonna take a while to get over this you know,"

"I know, (y/n),"

"I love you,"

"I love you too,"
