Ratchet and Clank: The Iron Devil(Discontinued)

Chapter 20

If KT-7461 had to describe her life so far, she would say that it was full quite eventful. When she opened her eyes for the first time, all she realized that she was on a scrapyard. Many various machines were lying everywhere from  vehicles, refrigerators to robots. She quickly left that place and then go wherever her feet took her. However, she had one thought in her mind.

Who is she?

Her mind was completely blank. Nothing, apart from her serial number, indicated who she was. So she quickly went to the nearest robot expert with her problem and learned a few facts there:

She is an Exo. A mechanical combat robot that was created by controversial inventor, Clovis Bray.

Exos very often go through a complete memory reset due to traumatic experiences. Sometimes they do it voluntarily, and sometimes they are forced to do it.

The number next to Exo's name may suggest how many times the memory was cleared.

Having this information, KT asked if it was possible to restore her memories, or at least learn anything about who she was. She was informed that only the Braytech Corporation could do this, but they ceased to exist centuries ago and the current Exos are just "cheap copies" of the originals.

She thanked for the help and then headed to the nearest town. There she learned that she was on an unnamed farm planet and that if she did not have a job or a place to live, she would be turned into spare part. Not wanting to be destroyed, KT quickly found a job at a local warehouse. There she noticed that her body was not only stronger, but also better in terms of performance than other robots. A huge and heavy beam needs to be moved? KT will do this with one hand behind her back.

For the next four years, KT earned herself a reputation for being very helpful and very kind. Many of her colleagues, whether organic or mechanical, invited her over to their homes to meet their families. She liked this life.

But then an accident happened.

One day everything was fine in the warehouse. The machines were working, the employees were receiving, delivering and/or unpacking the deliveries that had arrived. A Day like everyday.

Unfortunately, something had to go wrong at some point. One of the metal beams, that make up the big shelves, broke and created a domino effect. Hundreds, if not thousands, tons of metal began to fall. Employees were running away from the warehouse, trying to save their lives. KT was among them. She was about to get outside when she turned around and saw a beam was to crush her co-workers. Without a second thought, KT ran towards them and then decided to catch falling beam.

Something happened at that moment. Suddenly KT's body transformed and she became bigger. She was so big that she could easily catch everything that was falling. And so she did. She saved lives and was hailed as a local hero. Everyone cheered at her when they saw her. Yet she had something in mind.

She wondered what on earth happened.

She went again to the robot expert. He informed her that apparently she was not only an Exo, but also a Titan, a big bipedal, humanoid shape machine that was originally intended to help with heavy work and then be turned into machines that spread death in wars. The thought of  having been a war mech terrified KT. That day, she vowed to herself that she would never hurt anyone.

What a pity that the greed of others can change such oaths.

A few months after this incident, KT was asked by her manager for a meeting on the weekend after work. When they met, she was asked to accompany her boss during a transaction with representatives of some corporation. At the meeting, it turned out that the manager was taking bribes and allowing the corporation to use his warehouse as a place for smuggling. After this meeting, KT told her boss that she wanted nothing to do with it. The man threatened to hurt people she had become friends with if she decided to betray him.
