Livia looks at me with an odd smile for a few minutes before laughing.

I laugh, too. "What?"

"Girl, I have heard so much about you," she shakes her head. "After everything, I still never expected you to be so kind."

My smile falters, and I repeat her words to myself. "'Never expected—'"

"You're gorgeous," Livia cocks her head, leaning back on her hands. "From personal experience, gorgeous girls aren't kind, and if they are, it's only to certain people or for a show. I figured Valen only saw the kind side of you, but I was wrong."

I don't really know what to say to that.

Livia's tone softens. "You're an amazing girl. And you and Valen are adorable together."

"Oh," I laugh nervously, my eyes unable to meet hers. "We're not—we're not together like that."

"Really?" Livia's eyebrows shoot up. "Have you seen the way he looks at you?"

I feel my face heat, and my embarrassment grows  when I realize my face is red. "Well... I've been told—I don't know. He's—We—"

Livia laughs loudly, her head thrown back. "You like him!"

"I—he—I don't—" I sputter, and I want to go dig myself a hole to lie in.

Livia leans closer, a large grin on her face. "I can tell. You ain't gettin' me thrown off, here."

I twist my face together. "My face is a volcanic explosion, isn't it?"

"Yep," Livia responds happily.

It's quiet for a minute, and the longer Livia stares at me, the more embarrassed and uncomfortable I feel.

"Fine!" I whine. "I think I'm in love with him. You can't tell him, though. Please. Please don't."

"I promise," Livia leans back, her hands up. "But you need to tell him how you feel. Tell him on Christmas day. That's the perfect time."

"That was actually my plan," I smile, fanning my face to try to get it to cool down.

Livia hops off the ground and goes somewhere in Valen's room. She comes back with a bottle of water. I take it from her with a quiet "thank you."
