Chapter 16 First day of school

After several months, the school was eventually constructed. It was time to open the school so that the kids could come and study because the men in the community had been working so hard. Luna had completed her teacher preparation coursework, and she was feeling both anxious and thrilled about it all at the same time. She got off, entered the building, and began getting ready for her kids when the wagon stopped at the school's doors. When Red arrived at the school, she was standing in front of the chalkboard. She wore an apron and a white dress with tiny pink flowers embroidered on it. The outfit had buttons running down the back.

Red grinned, she turned to face him, and questioned, "What are you doing here?"

Red turned to face her, grinned, took her in his arms, kissed her, and said, "I just wanted to see how you were settling in and to give you a kiss and tell you that I am going out to Rocky's cabin to help him with a few things."

Red had been staring down at his feet as he had been approaching her slowly. With a smile, Luna peered down at his chest.

"Well... to give you an idea of how things have been going...," Luna said, grinning as she looked down at her chest and began to swirl her finger in circles over his chest.

I'm excited and a little anxious at the same time. Simply put, I'm not sure how to feel."

"My love, there's nothing to worry about—you'll do great," Red remarked, giving her a hug and a kiss on the forehead.       

"I should go, the kids will be here soon," Red stated at that point.

She began to feel better as he turned around and started to leave, walking out the doors behind him. She proceeded to the doors, opened one, and stood outside the opening to await the arrival of every child. Upon their arrival at the school, she greeted them all and seated them at their desks.

"Hello, kids," she said next. "I am Miss Luna, and I will be your instructor. Although we have a lot to learn today, let's start by getting to know one another. Raise your hand in the air one by one, and I will call on you when you state your name."

Luna introduced herself to the class by pointing to each child as they raised their hands in the air, asking them to announce their names. After that, she said, "It's great to meet you all." We'll be learning to read little words and some more entertaining stuff after that.

As the day went on Luna sat at her desk when all the students were outside playing. Luna then went to get the children to bring them back inside as she had them sit down. She then wanted to tell them a story. She went on to say "Now children this story is a true story about a young man and a young woman."

At the end of the school day she then dismissed the class and sent them on their way to go home.
