Chapter 8 Page 38

While all he could do was give Luna an embrace,

Red replied, "I'm sorry you had to go through those things."

She shook her head and lowered herself into the tub filled with water, saying,

"Red that man is no man or a father he is nothing.

" I will never call him my father, and I never want to see him again. I am terrified of him because when I was younger, he used to beat on my mother and me for standing up to him when he raised his hand to my younger sister. He overindulges in alcohol and becomes terrible. Since I was the oldest, I felt it was my duty to step in when my younger sister became too helpless."

Red whispered, "Come her, my love," giving her a strong hug as he assisted her in getting out of the tub and onto her feet.

As she put on a nightgown, he said, "Let's get you dried off and dressed for bed," glancing at her.

Still moist, she closed her eyes and pondered for a long moment before opening them to inquire,

"Red? And though I love you, and though I don't want to live the same life as my mother, I hope you never forget that."

Red turned her onto her back. Held her, and looked into her eyes before responding,

"I would never do anything to hurt you."
