Fuck...

Your mom had just called and announced that she will come over and visit you two. She probably wanted to see Marshall... And who are you to say no? You couldn't.

You actually felt so sorry for her. You didn't want to lie to her or keep secrets from her...but you just wanted to protect her.

You also have to tell Marshall now before she arrives...I mean who knows, she could be here in less than half an hour.

"Marshall!", you called out. It turned out he was sitting in the kitchen.

"Huh?", he asked.

"Marsh— I— My mom is probably coming in like twenty minutes... I couldn't tell her no and—"

"What's the problem here?", he asked.

"The problem is that she thinks we're a couple again", you pointed out and waited for his reaction.

But he just let out a soft chuckle. "Y/n, stop worrying."

"How the fuck should I stop worrying?", you asked panicky. You hated that he always needed to stay this calm. It made you feel so stupid sometimes.

"Y/n, we don't need to kiss", he shrugged. "We don't need to do any of that shit."

You let out a frustrated sigh. "I know... it's just... i hate to lie to my mom. She will tell dad, then he will call me too...and I have to lie to him as well...just to protect them. It's so not fair."

"I know...", he sighed.

"And plus it just feels weird, doesn't it?", you suddenly blurted out. "I mean we haven't talked about our breakup once. Why are we acting like nothing happened?! I mean I'm fucking living here, sleeping in your bed and shit and—"

"Y/n, calm the fuck down again", he suddenly said angrily. "Do you really wanna fight with me right now?! Your mom will probably gonna be here in a couple of minutes."

"Marshall, I don't care! I'm just so fucking confused right now because you have changed so much and...I don't fucking know, but it's making me so fucking angry right now!"

"Stop yelling at me!", he said loudly and stood up from his chair. "I fucking let you sleep in my bed because you were fucking scared and were crying. And don't act all surprised that I've changed in all those years because that is fucking normal, y/n! Plus, you've changed too. A lot."

Shit, he was angry.

"You stop yelling at me", was all you could say to that.

Marshall just narrowed his eyes at you, his one eyes twitching, before he walked out the kitchen and slammed the door shut.

Oh well...

You took a deep breath to calm yourself down as good as possible. You wanted to cry. But you couldn't. not now... And also, you're not a baby. So you won't cry.

You just started to make some coffee for when your mom arrives.

A few minutes later the doorbell rang so you walked over there to open the door but Marshall was faster because your mom was already hugging him tightly.

"Hello, Marshall", she said happily and cupped his bearded cheeks with her palms and looked up to him with a warm smile on her face.

She had always been very motherly towards Marshall as well and they got along very well which you had been so thankful for.

"Hi, Sue", Marshall said smiling. "Come in."

That was when your mom spotted you and immediately walked over to you. "Hello, honey. How are you?", she asked and instantly gave you a big hug.

"Good", you lied. "How are you?"

"I'm amazing sweetie", your mom sighed happily.  "I'm so happy you two are back together."

You just gave her a fake smile before you glanced at Marshall who was just glaring at you. Suddenly, you didn't know how to respond to what your mom just said and started to panic on the inside.

But then Marshall just suddenly walked over to you and stopped right behind you. Next he simply took your left hand in his, raised it up to his mouth and gave it a soft kiss.

What the...

"We are very happy too, right?", he announced before his fingers started to softly caress your right upper arm which was very confusing as well and unfortunately sent shivers down your spine.

Why was he making you feel like this?!

All you could do was nod slowly because you were so blown away by how softly he was touching you.

Only a second later he stopped and took a few steps backwards as if nothing had happened and shockingly, you were instantly seeking for his touch again and were missing the warm fingers on your skin. It felt so so weird.

You were also pretty sure that you were bright red by now so without saying anything you went into the kitchen and poured coffee into two cute mugs for you and your mom because you know Marshall doesn't drink coffee.

Next you walked back with the coffee and a red bull for Marshall and saw that him and your mom were already sitting on the couches in the living room, chatting casually.

Marshall shot you a look that you couldn't quite figure out. It was a firm but tender expression. You tried to ignore the feeling it was causing in your stomach area as good as possible before you pretty much just tossed the red bull can to him.

"Your dad couldn't join us today, y/n. You know how he's working all the time. But I should tell you he loves you anyways", your mom said when you sat down next to her and handed her the coffee mug.

"Tell him I love him too", I said and took a big sip of my coffee.

"I will", she said softly. "But are you officially living here again?", she asked me.

The again sounded so weird so I couldn't help but look at Marshall again but he was using his poker face again and I couldn't spot any emotion coming out of him.

"I uh... I don't really know yet. I mean I still have the mayoralty of my stuff back at my place... but I don't know... I guess for now on I'm living here."

Your mom just nodded. "That's fine. Take your time, sweetie. Just know that dad and I will always be there to support you, okay?"

"Thanks, mom", you smiled.

But then she changed topics again. "How are your daughters, Marshall? Have they all moved out already."

"Yeah", he smiled and it honestly warmed your heart of how proud he looked. Because, really, his daughters are all his pride. He loves them so much. "They all moved out. Alaina is actually married now, Hailie is engaged... Stevie moved out last year... yeah they're grown up now. Bit they're making me proud."

"That's wonderful", my mom smiled warmly.

You had talked for another while before your mom had went home again. When you had stood at the door to say good bye, Marshall had once again positioned himself right behind you and was wrapping an arm around your waist and pulled you against him.

It was just so fucking confusing. But of course you had to act normal so you just fake-smiled up to him and leaned into him a bit more.

But as soon as your mom had went back into her car, you had wiggled out of his grip before backing away. "Fucking asshole", you grumbled.
