"Iris, baby", you sighed. "Hold on tight to the leash. We don't want Bob to run away, do we?"

You were spending the evening at the park near your neighborhood here in Detroit with your three year old daughter and your little dog. And of course Iris had insisted on holding the leash on her own.

But it was a little Yorkshire Terrier so nothing could really happen.

"Mommy, Bobby wanna run", your daughter argued.

"No honey, when you let go of the leash Bob runs away", you explained. "So keep holding it tightly, okay Rissy?"

"But Bobby wanna be fast", she argued in her cute voice.

"Ris, hand me the leash", you sighed.

"No!", she pouted before suddenly just letting the leash go.

Before you could even realize what was happening, your little dog started to run away.

"Bob!", you yelled and immediately started running after him. "Come back, Bob!"

You ran after him for about a good ten minutes until you've finally found him. The problem was, when you came back to where you left your daughter...she wasn't there anymore...

Fuck, fuck, fuckkk!!!

"Iris!", you called out, already panicking. "Goddammit! Fuck!"

You picked Bob up and started running again, tears shooting into your eyes. You were such a bad mom. Such a bad mom...

"Iris!", you shouted. "Rissy!"

By now you were crying, totally freaking out. It was already getting dark...

Marshall pov

I was sitting on this bench in the park, watching the sunset like I do every night. My dog Lily was lying in between my feet. It was a Rottweiler, but the nicest ever.

But then I suddenly spotted a little girl, maybe around two or three years old, making her way over to me, humming and seeming lost in her own thoughts.

Without a word she stopped right in front of me and simply gawked at the dog, then at me. She made me smile.

"Dat a cute dog", she grinned and pointed at Lily.

"Thanks", I chuckled. "You wanna pet her? She doesn't bite."

"Yes!", she said excitedly and crouched down and lightly patted my dog.

"Sweetie, where are your parents?", I asked the little girl softly.

"I only have a mommy", she explained with big eyes. "Mommy ran away."

"She ran away?", I asked confused.

"U-hu", she nodded before she suddenly started to cry. "Where's mommy?"

"Oh sweetie, don't cry", I instantly said. "I'm sure your mommy will come back."

"Mommy", she simply sobbed. Next she glanced up at me before suddenly raising her arms up. "Arm."

"You want me to pick you up?", I asked confused. I didn't really feel comfortable, picking up a stranger's kid.

"Arm!", she said again, sobbing.

And somehow I felt so bad that I simply picked her up and pulled her onto my thigh. She instantly smuggled into me.

"What's your name?", I asked her softly.

"Iris", she sobbed.

"Hi Iris, I'm Marshall", I smiled tenderly.

"And your dog?", she asked curiously, calming down again.
